About this Gummy Bear Shot recipe

If you’re anything like me, your college parties featured more jungle juice and rounds of shots than your grown-up gatherings, but you can’t deny they are still fun every now and again.

I remember tequila shots the most, but I sure wish someone had invented the Gummy Bear Shot sooner! Gummy bears are one of my favorite candies, and it is so fun to enjoy their fruity flavors in shot form.

These shots feature cherry vodka, peach schnapps, pineapple juice and lemon-lime soda. With so many fruity flavors, they taste like you’re eating a whole bag of squishy little rainbow bears all at once.

Why you’ll love this recipe

  • Gummy Bear Shots offer a fun twist on your usual party time shots.
  • These playful and flavorful shots are perfect for parties. Garnish them with real gummy bears for an extra party treat.
  • The layers of flavor in this shot — tart cherry, sweet peach, tropical pineapple and sour lemon and lime — create a sweet candy-like experience.

Tools & glassware

For this recipe you will need a cocktail shaker, strainer and jigger. These are all part of a basic bartending set, so if you have one of those you’re good to go.

If you don’t, you can measure the ingredients in tablespoons: 1 ounce is equal to 2 tablespoons. (And ¼ ounce is equal to ½ tablespoon.)

And of course, you’ll need shot glasses! These shots are 2.5-ounces, so use that size. You can add them to 1-ounce glasses, just shake them up first and strain them into the glasses to get about 2 shots’ worth in one go.

Ingredients

Here’s what you will need to make these gummy bear shots!

  • cherry vodka: You can use either clear-colored cherry vodka or one that is made with red food color. Or you can add a drop of red food color to the cocktail shaker!
  • peach schnapps: This delightful peach liqueur brings a touch of fun to your bar cart.
  • pineapple juice: This adds the layers of tropical flavor to these shots. (Quick note: I’m allergic to pineapple, so I use orange juice and it’s still delicious.)
  • lemon-lime soda: For a hint of bubbles and added flavor, a splash of Sprite or 7-Up does the trick. nal and can be skipped.

Garnishes

If you want to use real gummy bears as a garnish, you absolutely can! (Did you know you can even make your own gummy bears?!)

  • You can add one into the shot glass. (Just be sure to tell everyone before they drink it so they don’t choke.)
  • Cut a slit in the gummy bear and perch it on the edge of the glass.
  • Spear them with a cocktail pick (sorry bears!) and rest it inside or on top of the shot glass.

Variations and substitutions

Mix things up with one of these variations. You could have fun with different liqueurs to make the full spectrum of gummy bear flavors:

  • Red gummy bear shot: Use red-colored cherry vodka if you want a redder color. A drop of red food coloring in the cocktail shaker will work too!
  • White gummy bear shot: Replace the cherry vodka with clear raspberry vodka.
  • Orange gummy bear shot: Pour in orange whiskey instead of cherry vodka, and orange juice instead of pineapple juice. The orange whiskey is so good in the orange tea shot!
  • Yellow gummy bear shot: Use lemon vodka instead of cherry, and sour mix instead of pineapple juice.
  • Green gummy bear shot: Substitute green apple vodka instead of cherry, and sour mix instead of pineapple juice.

Or you can have fun with non-bear shapes! Use gummy worms instead of bears for a Halloween-inspired gummy worm shot!

Food pairings

These fruity shots are also great with your favorite salty munchies like Chex mix and cheesy popcorn.

If you have leftover gummies, use them to make vodka-infused gummy bears! You can also use rum, tequila or another alcohol if you prefer. Here are some of my favorite versions:

You could even use the leftovers to make gummy bear sangria to share or gummy bear popsicles for dessert.
