What is a Green Tea Shot?

The Green Tea Shot is a delightful and fun alcoholic drink recipe crafted with Irish whiskey, peach schnapps and sour mix.

Surprisingly, no actual green tea is involved. (However, they are the color of green tea, which is where the name of this drink comes from!)

For an added touch, you can add a splash of lemon-lime soda, providing a light effervescence to elevate the taste.

Green Tea Shot vs. White Tea Shot

While these two popular shots share similarities, they have a key distinguishing element — the base spirit. These important main ingredients lend their flavor and color.

The White Tea Shot incorporates vodka, peach schnapps and sour mix, resulting in a light-colored concoction reminiscent of a cup of white tea. On the other hand, the Green Tea Shot uses Irish whiskey instead of vodka, producing a darker green color that looks more like green tea.

Notably, the White Tea Shot presents a crisp and peachy taste, cleverly concealing the vodka flavor with the addition of peach schnapps. In the Irish whiskey version, the fruity flavor is still sweet but the whiskey makes it a little more complex.

For a twist, there’s also the Orange Tea Shot that boasts the use of orange-flavored Irish whiskey.

Tools & glassware

You’ll need 1.5-ounce or 2-ounce shot glasses. If you are crafting multiple shots, it’s best to employ a cocktail shaker instead of building them directly in the shot glasses.

Plus, utilizing a cocktail shaker allows you to mix the ingredients with ice, achieving a chilly temperature.

Use a jigger to measure the ingredients accurately.

Ingredients

Grab these Green Tea Shot ingredients and let’s get mixing!

  • Irish whiskey: This is the foundation of the shot. Jameson Irish whiskey is the most popular, but you can certainly try other brands of Irish whiskey.
  • Peach schnapps: This delightful peach liqueur brings a touch of fun to your bar cart.
  • Sour mix: This is a sweet lemon-lime cocktail mixer you can buy and use in tons of cocktail and shot recipes. For an even better shot, consider making your own homemade sour mix using fresh lemon juice, fresh lime juice, sugar, and water.
  • Lemon-lime soda: For a hint of bubbles and added flavor, a splash of soda (like Sprite or 7-Up) does the trick. This ingredient is optional and can be skipped.

If you like, you can garnish these shots with a lime wedge.

Variations and substitutions

No Irish whiskey? Bourbon and rye whiskey are a great way to substitute Irish whiskey, but the shots won’t taste exactly the same.

No sour mix? Use margarita mix. You can also use 2 parts simple syrup to 1 part lemon juice and 1 part lime juice.

White Tea Shot: Substitute vodka for Irish whiskey to a different shot recipe.

Hi Barbara, As long as you have equal parts of everything, you should be able to make a lot pretty easily!

For example, if you wanted to make a quart, which would make 16 2-ounce shots: Mix together 1 cup of each ingredient. (But if you are making ahead, skip the lemon-lime soda and only add it right before serving to keep it at its bubbliest.)

Also, you can always use the +/- slider in the recipe card to adjust the servings as you need!
