The holidays for me always seem to bring up so many memories of Christmases past.
Growing up, my family had tons of little traditions.
For example, my siblings and I always had our photo taken on Christmas morning, in pajamas, sitting on the stairs. I’m sure there’s an album somewhere that shows us growing through the years through the lens of Christmas morning.
We always had a Moravian sugar cake for breakfast in between opening stockings and presents. (It’s still not Christmas if we don’t!)
When we were little, I used to love singing carols with my family in the car on the way to my great-grandmother’s house on Christmas Eve.
But traditions change.
Everyone stops doing some traditions for some reason or another. We grow up. Sometimes people pass away or move away, and eventually we welcome new people into our families, sometimes very little ones!
Sometimes we stop traditions for a little while, but there’s always new traditions to begin.
We always used to leave out cookies for Santa, which of course changed when we grew up.
So now instead of baking for Santa, I bake for friends and neighbors instead.
Trays of no-bake s’mores cookies, cranberry white chocolate oatmeal cookies, avalanche cookies and cardamom gingerbread cookies — and that’s just the top of the iceberg of recipes I have tried in recent years.
Every year we almost always decorate sugar cookie cutouts with my mom. That’s one tradition we have kept up!

Now that we’re adults, there’s often a Yule mule to be had during this cookie baking. But this year, there will be chocolate chip cookie shots.
After years of trying, I finally nailed this recipe! It took finding the right baking vessel to get this recipe right.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Shots are so much fun and I just know Santa will love them! Make him a non-alcoholic version with his favorite milk, or go for a boozy treat!
What are chocolate chip cookie shots?
These edible shot glasses are made out of chocolate chip cookies!
To keep the liquid from oozing out of the porous cookies, the inside of the “glass” is coated with melted chocolate.
The shots are filled with either milk or a creamy, boozy mixture.
How to bake cookie shooters
I tried muffin tins and silicone trays, but it was this shot glass baking pan that did the trick.
You’ll need to use a metal baking pan. This one has removable cups to help hold the shape. I found these to be slightly irregular sometimes, but you can adjust them halfway through baking if you want a more perfect look.
The trick is to fill the pans about halfway. They might bake a little irregularly, like mine did, but honestly I think that’s part of their charm! Who cares?
As I mentioned above, you’ll need to line the inside of the cookie shot glasses with melted chocolate so the liquid stays in. Don’t skip this step!
What goes in a chocolate chip cookie shot
For a boozy filling, I use equal parts coffee liqueur and Irish cream liqueur.
But for non-alcoholic shooter, you can simply use milk! And then we will call it a milk and cookies shot.
ABOUT THE SWEETEST SEASON
This recipe is part of The Sweetest Season, an annual virtual cookie swap co-hosted by Erin of The Speckled Palate and myself. Every year, we get a big group of food bloggers together to share new holiday cookie recipes.
This year we are raising money for Cookies 4 Kids’ Cancer, which is a recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to funding research for new, innovative and less-toxic treatments for childhood cancer.
This season, OXO will be matching every dollar raised through Dec. 31, 2023, up to $100,000. Whatever money we raise will automatically double on our fundraising page!
I hope you enjoy making Chocolate Chip Cookie Shots for yourself and your holiday parties this year.
Santa too will love a couple Milk and Cookie Shots on Christmas Eve!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Shots
ingredients
For the cookie shot glasses
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour unsifted
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter softened
- ¾ cup white sugar
- ¾ cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 12 ounces chocolate chips divided
For one cookie shot
- ½ ounce irish cream
- ½ ounce coffee liqueur
instructions
Cookie Shot Glasses
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- In a medium bowl, stir together flour, baking soda and salt.
- In a medium bowl or stand mixer, cream together the butter, white sugar and brown sugar. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
- Gradually stir the flour mixture into the wet mixture until combined.
- Slowly, stir in all but 1/2 cup of the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
- Lightly spray baking pan with cooking spray. Fill each cavity with 2 tablespoons of dough, filling it about halfway. Insert the center mold.
- Place pan on a cookie sheet. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes in preheated oven or until golden brown. Allow cookie cups to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Meanwhile, melt the remaining chocolate chips in the microwave on half-power in 30 second bursts until melted, stirring in between.
- Use a metal spatula or knife to spread the chocolate inside each cookie’s cavity in a thin layer. Make sure to cover the entire inside of the cookie shots.
- Place shots in the fridge for 30 minutes to set the chocolate.
Cookie Shooters
- In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine equal parts Irish cream liqueur and coffee liqueur (about 1/2 ounce of each, per shot glass).
- Shake well, and pour into each shot glass. Enjoy immediately!

I’ve seen these pans in the baking aisle at the craft store. These look super fun but like a pain to actually make. In this instance, I’ll enjoy looking at yours while eating round chocolate chip cookies!

These are so cute! I filled mine with coffee and creamer (I don’t drink anymore). They were delicious. And for the kids, they can be filled with hot cocoa or chocolate milk!
