What is a White Tea Shot?
The white tea shot is a sweet shooter recipe made with vodka, peach schnapps and sour mix. It doesn’t actually contain any tea!
You can also add a splash of lemon-lime soda to give it a light effervescence.
If you double the recipe, you can enjoy it as a sweet cocktail in a chilled glass — it’s perfect for a warm day or anytime you want a classy cocktail.
White Tea Shot vs. Green Tea Shot
What’s the difference between the classic green tea shot and the white tea shot?
These two popular shots are similar but have one different ingredient — the base spirit — which gives them different flavors. Also, like white tea and green tea, they are different in color. And neither of them contain actual green tea or white tea bags.
The White Tea Shot is made with vodka, peach schnapps and sour mix. It has a light, white color and looks just like a cup of white tea. The Green Tea Shot is made with Irish whiskey, peach schnapps and sour mix, and it is a darker color, more like a cup of green tea.
The White Tea Shot has a more crisp, peachy flavor because the peach schnapps masks the vodka flavor.
There’s also the Orange Tea Shot which uses orange-flavored Jameson Irish whiskey.
Tools & glassware
You can build this shot in a shot glass, but if you are making more than one it’s best to use a cocktail shaker. You can also use a mason jar.
When you use a cocktail shaker, you can shake the ingredients with ice cubes, which chills the mixture slightly.
Use a jigger to help you measure the ingredients to get the ratio just right.
Ingredients
Here’s what you need to grab from the grocery store or liquor store to make White Tea Shots:
Peach schnapps: This peachy liqueur is fun to add to your bar cart and adds the sweet taste to this shot.
Vodka: For shots that taste good, don’t use the cheapest vodka. Settle for a medium-priced bottle.
Sour mix: Sour mix is a sweet lemon lime cocktail mixer. You can make it yourself with fresh lemon juice, fresh lime juice and sweet simple syrup (just sugar and water) for even better shots.
Lemon lime soda: A splash of lemon lime soda, like Sprite or 7-Up, adds a hint of fruity flavor, giving this shot brightness and bubbles. You can skip this ingredient if you want.
Variations and substitutions
No plain vodka? You can use rum, tequila or a fruity-flavored vodka, but the shots won’t taste quite the same.
No sour mix? Use margarita mix. You can also use 2 parts simple syrup to 1 part tart lemon juice and 1 part lime juice.
Green Tea Shot: Substitute Irish whiskey for the vodka to make another kind of shot.
