Ingredients

With only four simple ingredients, you’ll be hard-pressed not to make this delicious dessert on a regular basis throughout the summer. Here’s what to grab from the grocery store.

Fresh peaches: Make sure to use ripe peaches for a sweeter, juicier flavor. Any peaches will work but freestone peaches are the easiest to work with.

Butter: The butter doesn’t need to be softened for this recipe. Both salted and unsalted will work depending on your flavor preference. We use unsalted for this recipe usually. You can also use plant-based butter for a vegan option.

Honey: You’ll want liquid honey for the baked peaches so that you can drizzle them. If you only have creamed honey on hand, warm it slightly beforehand. Whenever possible, use local as it tends to have the best flavors!

Goat cheese: This will melt slightly once added to the warm peaches. When buying your goat cheese log, opt for a soft and fresh variety so that it melts into each bite. You can skip it, substitute with feta, ricotta or cottage cheese — or go sweet with ice cream instead.

Toppings for baked peaches

These baked peaches make for the easiest possible summer dessert. This means that though this easy recipe is delicious, it can also be altered a bit based on what you enjoy and have on hand.

To serve this easy peach dessert, use some of the delicious toppings below to switch up the flavor. These are some of my favorite ways to enjoy them:

  • Sprinkle the baked peaches with a dash of cinnamon when serving them.
  • Drizzle the peach halves with maple syrup or brown sugar in place of honey.
  • Mix together a blend of maple syrup, bourbon and vanilla for a boozy sauce to spoon over the goat cheese.
  • Skip the goat cheese and use a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the middle of each browned peach instead. Spoon roasted strawberries over top for an even fancier sundae.
  • Add a touch of whipped cream to the top (delicious, especially with ice cream too!).
  • Top them with a drizzle of caramel sauce in place of the honey.
  • Spritz fresh lemon juice over top and add your favorite fruit, like fresh berries.
  • Enjoy them for breakfast! Greek yogurt and granola would be a great addition, or cut them up over pancakes or French toast.

How to make Baked Peaches

You’ll have a succulent and flavorful dessert in just four easy steps:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). If you haven’t already, halve the peaches and remove the pits.
  2. Use a knife, spoon or melon baller to remove any tough skin from the peach halves.
  3. Place the halved peaches in a baking dish with the skin side down. Fill the dish with water and place a piece of butter into the center of each peach.
  4. Bake the peaches for 30 minutes, then broil on high for 5 minutes. Remove the baked peaches from the oven and let the dish cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes.
  5. Transfer the peaches to a serving dish or place each one in a small bowl. Fill each half with a dollop of goat cheese and a drizzle of honey — or your favorite toppings! (Scroll up for some ideas.)

Tips & tricks

Here are some tips and tricks for making this the perfect summer dessert:

  • Make sure to use ripe peaches to maximize the juicy flavor. Unripe peaches are tough and won’t cook as well.
  • Freestone peaches work best here because the pit comes out easily. However, clingstone peaches like white peaches and yellow peaches will work too. Know that white peaches are known for having a milder flavor and tend not to be as sweet.
  • Don’t underestimate letting the baked peaches cool slightly coming out of the oven. If you add the goat cheese and honey right away, you’ll have a melted puddle. Plus, the melted butter and the sugar content of the natural juice makes them really hot.
  • Some people prefer to peel the peaches prior to baking them. However, it’s one extra step. Plus, the peach skin comes out a delicious golden brown color and helps to hold in some of the juicy flavors. If the skin doesn’t bug you texture-wise, leave it on!
  • Baked peaches are best eaten fresh. If you need to store them, try to place them in an airtight container in the fridge without filling them first. You can reheat them in the oven on low and top them with fresh goat cheese and honey.

What to serve with Baked Peaches

They are a great dessert to enjoy with other peach dishes, like peach pizza or chipotle peach meatballs.

If you’re not a goat cheese fan, serve them with your favorite vanilla ice cream or even peach ice cream.

Serve them with a fresh summer cocktail like a blackberry peach bramble or a peach whiskey smash. They’d also be good with peach margaritas!

FAQ

Can you bake peaches with skin?

Yes! Because of the high heat, when you bake peaches with the skin on it comes out very tender and falls apart in your mouth. The skin also helps hold in some of the juicy sweetness of the peaches.

Should peaches be ripe before baking?

Ripe peaches will provide the best, juicy flavor in baked peaches. As much as possible, choose soft, ripe peaches to maximize the sweetness in your dessert.

How can I enhance my peach flavor?

The great thing about peaches is that they pair well with just about any flavor. To maximize their sweetness, pair them with a sugar like maple syrup or honey. Cinnamon will bring out a more comforting flavor and vanilla gives them an aromatic feel to them. All of these options can take baked peaches from something simple to an elegant dessert.
