About this Blackberry Peach Whiskey Sour recipe

There is nothing like summer produce. I’ll be so sad to say goodbye to the fresh fruits I’ve come to cherish more than ever this season. Who’s with me?

This Blackberry Peach Sour is the most divine thing you’ll taste this summer. It’s like a whiskey smash meets a whiskey sour.

The result is a velvety whiskey sour that’s fruity and full of flavor. You’ll want to toast a few of these before summer is officially over. Most whiskey sours are made with lemon juice, but this one uses tart blackberries and sweet peaches for a delightful seasonal twist.

2024 update: This cocktail was one of the first ones I ever made for this website! I’m updating it with new photos and better step-by-step instructions!

Why you’ll love this recipe

This Blackberry Peach Whiskey Sour cocktail is oh-so-perfect for summertime! You’re going to love it because:

  • It highlights the best of your summer grocery hauls: tart blackberries, juicy peaches and sweet local honey.
  • A Southern delight, it’s a great way to dip your toe into bourbon-drinking as it’s not too boozy.
  • Egg white cocktails are so luxurious. When shaken hard, they are velvety smooth and topped with a thick foam that has such a fun texture.

This drink would be great for patriotic holidays like July 4th as well as any simple summer night on your patio or balcony.

Ingredients

So what do you need for this summery cocktail? Here’s everything you need!

  • blackberries
  • peaches
  • mint leaves
  • honey
  • bourbon
  • egg white

You can use fresh or frozen fruit, but fresh is best. You’ll need the frozen fruit to thaw a little bit so you can muddle it.

Please see the recipe card below for the measurements and full ingredient list!

Raw egg warning

Consuming raw or lightly-cooked eggs poses a risk for food-borne illness.

Best whiskey

Bourbon whiskey makes for a great whiskey sour, but you can use whatever your favorite whiskey is. It will work with other types of whiskey like Irish whiskey and rye whiskey. You could even use a flavored one like honey whiskey (but maybe hold the honey).

If you have a favorite brand of whiskey, use that! Otherwise I recommend a medium-shelf brand like Bulleit, Old Forester or Four Roses.

Substitutions & variations

This Blackberry Peach Whiskey Sour is easy to customize to your liking.

  • Try other fruits. You can use other berries like raspberries or blueberries or other stone fruits like nectarines.
  • Make it vegan. Make it without egg whites and serve it on the rocks, or use egg replacers. Also, use agave nectar or simple syrup instead of honey.
  • Swap the spirit. If you’re not a bourbon fan, you can make this drink with other types of whiskey or other spirits like gin, rum or tequila.

Instructions

You’re going to muddle some blackberries, peach slices and a sprig of mint in the bottom of a cocktail shaker.

Then you’re going to add some fragrant (ideally local) honey, your very best whiskey, ice and an egg white.

Then shake — hard. That’s the only way you’ll get that foamy top layer and the most velvety smooth texture.

Tips & tricks

How do you make this drink even better? Here are my top tips:

  • Be sure to shake for at least 30 seconds, even a minute, to get the best texture.
  • Use fresh summer produce. The fresher the better!
  • Spring for a quality whiskey that’s on a middle shelf.

Make a big batch

This cocktail is a great one to serve a crowd for a party. Instead of muddling, make a blackberry syrup with peaches (or peach syrup with blackberries). Instead of sugar in the syrup, use the same amount of honey.

To make the cocktail, use the +/- buttons in the recipe below to multiply the ingredient amounts. I recommend serving this whiskey sour on the rocks and without the egg white in this case. Make it ahead of time in a pitcher and stash it in the fridge.
