Boozy Dole Whip Recipe
Have you ever had a Dole Whip?
I tried my first one on a trip to Disney World a few years ago when I attended a food blogging conference with my friend Meghan.
Our friend told us to make sure we grabbed a Dole Whip. I didn’t even know what a Dole Whip was, but we trusted her.
(But really, as foodies, we wanted to try everything. As much as our stomachs would allow.)
So after a long, hot day of traversing roller coasters across Magic Kingdom, we waited in line outside Aloha Isle for a taste of this frozen treat.
The line wasn’t as long as I thought it would be — it felt like we discovered a secret.
But I think we just got lucky. I know now the Dole Whip is a lot of people’s favorite food at Disney World! (They have it at Disneyland too.)
That first taste — oh, was it just magical!
I wrote in my blog post afterward about my trip to Disney World:
“I didn’t even know I wanted a swirled pineapple-orange juice float, but now I will want one always.”
And that has been true.
Here’s a picture of my very first Dole Whip:
The picturesque swirl of frozen pineapple soft-serve with a hint of vanilla is something I’ve not forgotten.
Sure, the rides at Disney are incredible. It’s fun to see your favorite movies come to life. Plus, it’s just so whimsical and it’s great to feel like a kid again!
But for some reason, all I can think about is that dang Dole Whip.
I’ve thought of this bright, luscious, icy dessert many times. It’s one of my top memories of that trip to Disney, and I’ve been itching to figure out how to make it ever since.
And then I wondered — what if I added some rum? Or even spiced rum.
So what is a Dole Whip?
Dole Whip is a pineapple and vanilla soft-serve ice cream dessert sold at Disney Parks around the world.
The Dole Food Company invented the dessert in the 1980s, and it’s been a fan fave at the parks ever since.
It’s light and refreshing, and with one taste you will see why it is super popular. (And worth the long line!)
But if you don’t want to wait in a long line — or even think about planning a trip to Orlando, you can make your own homemade Dole Whip.
And if you like, you can add some alcohol to make it a boozy Dole Whip. Totally optional, of course!
How to make a Boozy Dole Whip
Making a Dole Whip with alcohol is easy. All you need is a blender and a few ingredients:
- frozen pineapple
- pineapple juice
- vanilla ice cream
- rum or vodka
Pop them all in the blender, and voila! It’s ready to eat.
Now, if you want that iconic Dole Whip soft-serve swirl, you’re going to need time, patience and a little more equipment.
First, you’ll let everything rest in the freezer for about 30 minutes so the mixture can firm up.
Then you’ll spoon it into a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped icing tip and pipe it into your favorite glass.
Add a little extra pineapple juice if you like!
Now you have the perfect treat to enjoy this summer, whether or not we can travel to the best place on Earth!
If you’re in the mood for more cocktail ideas to help transport you to the Enchanted Tiki Room, look no further than a batch of tiki punch, a hurricane or this frozen mango daiquiri.
More frozen desserts
Here are some more of our favorite boozy desserts with an ice-cold twist. You could also make some rolled ice cream for a delicious treat!
Cheers to you! And enjoy!
Boozy Dole Whip
ingredients
- 1 scoop vanilla ice cream
- 4 ounces pineapple juice
- 1 cups pineapple chunks frozen
- 2 ounces rum or spiced rum
instructions
- In a blender, add all ingredients and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass and enjoy!
- If you prefer the iconic Dole Whip swirl, pour mixture into a shallow baking dish (like you would make brownies in) and freeze for an hour or longer. (You may need to reblend it a second time to get it to defrost a little bit.)
- Then fit a piping bag with a star-tip and spoon in the frozen mixture. Then pipe the mixture into a bowl. To make a swirl shape, make a big circle and spiral in toward the center to fill in the circle, then continue to layer the swirls, filling in the centers as you go until you reach the top.

What a fun and delicious dessert. I’ve tried the dole whip when we were in Hawaii, but I know Disney is also famous for the dessert, BUT never had it boozy! This is going to be our dessert for our Hawaiian themed party!
