Tools & equipment
In order to draw out the most flavor, you’ll want to use your air fryer and blender. You’ll also need a knife and cutting board, and a citrus juicer *.
If you’re planning to serve this salsa right after it’s made, you’ll be able to put it into a bowl. For any leftovers, or to save it for later, make sure you have an airtight container on-hand.

Ingredients & substitutions
Avocado salsa starts with avocado, of course. Be sure to grab ripe avocados with black skins that have a little give to them when you squeeze. If they are green or hard, they’re not ripe enough for salsa.
Green tomatoes provide the salsa vibes — these aren’t the same as tomatillos though. (If all you have is tomatillos, this tomatillo salsa is another favorite recipe.) You’ll also need a little olive oil to roast them, which softens them and brings out the flavor.
Salsa isn’t salsa without lots of layers of flavor. Onion and garlic cloves give the salsa their depth. Serrano peppers provide the heat, but you can use jalapeño peppers if you prefer. If you don’t like spice, be sure to remove the ribs and seeds. Fresh lime juice and cilantro help to mellow out the other flavors, and salt finishes things off.

Instructions
Get your chips ready and let’s make a batch of Avocado Salsa!

Would you like to save this?
First, preheat your air fryer to 390°F (200°C) and place your peppers, green tomatoes, garlic and onion into the basket. If you’d like to drizzle them with oil, it will give a bit of extra flavor and help them “roast.” Air fry them until slightly charred, then remove them from heat and let them cool.

Next, add all of the ingredients, including those you air fried, into the blender. Squeeze your lime juice and add it on top of the rest of the ingredients.

Finally, blend everything until it’s smooth. Add salt to taste and enjoy it immediately or store in an airtight container in the fridge.

Tips & tricks
- No air fryer? No problem! Roast your veggies in the oven instead.
- If you prefer a chunkier consistency, pulse your ingredients instead of blending them.
- Tweak the recipe to fit your personal tastes — don’t be afraid to experiment!

Serving suggestions
Obviously this recipe works well with tacos, but why stop there? Drizzle it on top of nachos (or totchos, yum), add it as a topping for your grilling masterpieces or place it alongside your favorite tortilla chips.
Margaritas are a natural choice for taco night. Start with a classic margarita, then branch out to different flavors like cucumber, peach or watermelon. A beerita would be a fun option for game day and is extremely simple to mix up.
FAQ
Thanks to the peppers, this salsa has a bit of a kick, but isn’t exceptionally spicy.
Lime juice acts as a preservative to the fruits and vegetables in salsa. However, it also adds a tangy flavor that pairs wonderfully with the savory flavors as well. A double acting ingredient!
