The best Whipped Feta Dip recipe

This recipe has a story, but I’ll keep it short. My best friend introduced me to a restaurant with the best feta dip. Then the restaurant closed and we decided to try to match their recipe.

That’s this very recipe. I’ve made it several times since, and it is always, always, always a hit.

What I love about this whipped feta dip is that it isn’t overwhelmingly feta-y. It has hints of garlic, lemon and honey.

Make it for parties, eat it for a snack, spread it on sandwiches — the ways to enjoy this whipped feta dip are endless.

Tools & equipment

A food processor is helpful in putting together this recipe, as it does the best job of whipping the ingredients together.

You can also use a blender, but breaking up the chunks of feta might take a while.

Ingredients

You only need a handful of ingredients to make this recipe. Here’s what to grab at the grocery store:

  • Feta cheese block: You’ll need a whole block of feta, about 12 ounces. Don’t use the crumbles, as they can make your dip grainy.
  • Plain cream cheese: Any cream cheese will work, including light cream cheese of Neufchatel.
  • Fresh garlic: You can use cloves but the store-bought minced garlic will work too.
  • Olive oil: This goes into the dip, but you can also drizzle additional olive oil on top if you like.
  • A lemon: You’ll need it for juice and zest.
  • Sea salt or kosher salt
  • Black pepper
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Plain Greek yogurt: You can also use heavy cream or sour cream here, but tangy Greek yogurt tastes the best.
  • Honey: You can omit this, but I love the gentle sweetness it adds.
  • Fresh parsley: Garnish it with fresh parsley or other fresh herbs, such as fresh dill or fresh basil.

Additionally, you’ll want to pick up some dippers. I love making za’atar pita chips but you can also buy pita bread or pita chips to dip as well. Fresh veggies and crackers are also perfect.

I also like to add a drizzle of olive oil, a pinch of paprika, a few kalamata olives and fresh parsley on top for a pretty presentation. You could also use sesame seeds, chili flakes or a drizzle of honey — or hot honey.

FAQ

Why is my whipped feta dip grainy?

Be sure to use a block of feta cheese when making whipped feta dip. Pre-crumbled feta contains preservatives and anti-caking agents that can create a grainy texture when blended.

Why is my whipped feta dip runny?

If you whip the feta dip for too long or add too many liquid ingredients, it can be runny. Add more feta cheese or cream cheese and blend again to thicken it up.

Why is my whipped feta dip thick?

If your whipped feta dip is too stiff and thick, you can thin it out by adding a drizzle of olive oil or heavy cream and blending again.
