Baked Brie with Honey recipe

Sometimes you just need a SUPER easy appetizer. Of the “Oh, my friend asked me to bring an appetizer to dinner tonight!” variety.

This happened to me recently and I decided to whip up a quick and easy baked brie.

I have a recipe for caramelized pear baked brie, which is amazing but it takes tons of time to get those pears nice and soft.

This Baked Brie with Honey is a much simpler option but it’s just as tasty. And your party guests are going to love it.

Why you’ll love this recipe

Baked brie with honey is an easy appetizer that you will adore, because…

  • It’s the perfect appetizer with only four simple ingredients.
  • This baked brie wears many hats. It’s sweet, salty, cheesy, creamy and crunchy all at once.
  • It’s a crowd pleaser! People will gobble it up and beg you to make it again for the next get-together.

It’s perfect year-round — enjoy it in the summer or even for a Christmas party!

What is baked brie?

Brie is a fantastic appetizer that melts brie cheese with sweet toppings like brown sugar or honey, fruits and nuts.

Baked together in the oven, the result is a creamy, melty mess of flavor.

It is great for smaller crowds because people tend to stand around it and mingle while they gobble it up. For a bigger crowd, you might want to serve one and have a second one in the oven ready to go!

My aunt always makes her baked brie recipe during the holiday season, but it’s an appetizer that can be enjoyed all year round.

baked brie ingredients

Ingredients

This is such an easy recipe! You only need four ingredients to make this incredible, show-stopping appetizer.

Brie cheese

Named for the French region of Brie, this cheese is a soft cow’s milk cheese. It has a slight greyish color under a soft rind of white mold.

Don’t let that gross you out — the mold is totally edible! This cheese is often nicknamed the “Queen of Cheese,” because it is so creamy and decadent.

You can get a wheel of brie at most supermarkets, but Camembert makes a great substitute. I like to use a triple creme brie because it is extra soft and delicious.

Bacon

Bacon adds lots of salty flavor to this appetizer. I promise this is the reason this cheese dip will be gone in no time!

If you have a favorite type of bacon, use that. I prefer a thick-cut bacon. Hickory-smoked bacon or maplewood-smoked bacon are both amazing.

Honey

The sweet honey is the star of this recipe! The drizzle of honey on top is a great match for melted cheese.

Make sure you are using pure, 100% honey, and that no corn syrup or other additives are added. If you can, use a local, organic honey from your farmers market.

Sugar, maple syrup or agave would also work in place of the honey. You can also sprinkle brown sugar on top for a bit of caramel flavor.

Walnuts

Walnuts add a nice crunch and mild flavor to this appetizer.

Feel free to use pecans, hazelnuts or almonds instead. They will get nice and toasty in the oven and give off lots of welcome nuttiness.

fresh cooked bacon crumbles

On medium-high heat, cook your bacon in a skillet until crispy, on both sides. Sprinkle with salt and pepper while cooking. (You can also feel free to use pre-cooked bacon or use another method, such as oven bacon or air fryer bacon.)

Then remove from heat and place on a paper towel to collect the grease. Once cooled off, chop in small pieces.

What to serve with baked brie

This elegant appetizer pairs well with fresh bread, but you can serve this warm baked brie with a number of things! Here are a few ideas of what to serve on the side:

  • Baguette slices
  • Toasted, crusty bread
  • Plain water crackers
  • Seeded creackers
  • Pear or apple slices
  • Grapes
  • Blue Cheese Stuffed Olives

It also goes well with a cocktail or two! It goes especially well with a bright, bubbly champagne. Try this Elderflower French 75 or a Seelbach Bourbon Champagne cocktail.
