What was Starbucks S’mores Frappuccino?
The S’mores Frappuccino at Starbucks was a frozen espresso drink made with marshmallow-infused whipped cream, chocolate sauce, vanilla, coffee and milk. It was a seasonal item added to the summer menu.
According to The Sun, the S’mores Frappuccino was introduced in 2015 but taken off the menu in 2018. The drink was brought back in 2019 thanks to popular demand. But then it was discontinued for good in 2021.
The coffee giant likely discontinued the drink because it contained several specialty seasonal ingredients, whereas drinks like the pumpkin spice latte only require one (pumpkin spice syrup).

Tools & glassware
To make any kind of frappuccino at home, you need a really good blender that crushes ice with ease. I also recommend a good spatula to help you get out every last drop.
You’ll also need a way to make espresso or strong coffee, whether that’s an espresso machine, a French press or a regular drip coffee maker. (I use a Nespresso Machine.)
A highball glass or pint glass with a straw is perfect for glassware, but you can use a mason jar or re-use a plastic Starbucks cup if you want!
If you want to top it with a toasted marshmallow, you’ll need a butane torch to char it. Pierce it with a cocktail pick or bamboo skewer for a perfect garnish.

Ingredients
You only need a few simple ingredients to make this recipe. Here’s what to grab at the grocery store:
Fresh-brewed espresso: If you don’t have an espresso machine, use any strong coffee: Cold brew coffee or hot coffee made in a coffee maker or french press. Make sure it is slightly cooled so it doesn’t melt the ice.
Chocolate syrup: The original S’mores Frappuccino has a layer of milk chocolate sauce at the bottom, plus more mixed into the coffee drink and a drizzle of chocolate syrup on top too. I like to make homemade chocolate syrup with cocoa powder but store-bought works fine.
Marshmallow crème: A few scoops of marshmallow fluff make this drink taste like s’mores. You can also use a little toasted marshmallow syrup or burnt sugar syrup.
Milk: Be sure to use whole milk, not half-and-half or heavy cream, as they will become too thick. You can also use almond milk or soy milk if you need a dairy-free option.
Ice: Be sure to stock up on ice or fill the ice cube trays ahead of time, because you’ll blend ice into this drink to give it that slushy consistency.
Whipped cream: Starbucks’ version used marshmallow-infused whipped cream, which you can make by adding a small amount of marshmallow cream to homemade whipped cream.
Garnishes: Give your S’mores Frap the finishing touch with a drizzle of chocolate sauce, a sprinkling of graham crackers and chocolate shavings or even a toasted marshmallow on top of the drink. A straw is necessary too for consuming every last drop.
Variations and substitutions
Try one of these variations on this recipe:
Make it dairy-free: Use your favorite plant-based or lactose-free milk. (FYI: Marshmallow crème is dairy-free but it isn’t vegan.)
Make it a cocktail: Hey if you want to add some marshmallow vodka and coffee liqueur to make this an adult treat, who am I to stop you?

How to make a S’mores Frappuccino
Here’s how to make this S’mores Frappuccino recipe:
Add espresso, chocolate syrup, marshmallow crème, milk and ice to a blender. Turn it on and blend well until smooth.
Drizzle chocolate sauce inside of a glass and give it a nice swirl. Add some of the whipped cream to the bottom of the cup if desired. (This is how Starbucks made theirs).
Pour in the frozen espresso mixture. Add whipped cream on top if you like.
Garnish with graham cracker crumbs, chocolate shavings and even a toasted marshmallow, if desired.

Tips & tricks
Here are some tips and tricks for making this recipe:
- Be sure to use milk, not heavy cream, as the blender will whip the cream and make your frappuccino too thick.
- Your espresso shot or coffee should be slightly cooled so it doesn’t melt the ice.
- Make your own whipped cream. It’s truly so good! If you want to make it more like Starbucks’ add a little bit of marshmallow cream while you whip it.
- Prepare all your toppings before blending the frappuccino. This way the drink mixture won’t melt while you fiddle with crumbling graham crackers, charring marshmallows or cutting chocolate.
What to serve with a S’mores Frappe
Serve a s’mores frap with anything s’mores of course! Think actual s’mores or something like no-bake s’mores cookies or s’mores rice krispie treats.
You could also enjoy it with coffee shop treats like blueberry muffins or lemon bars.
Making your own marshmallows is also a fun way to take this drink over the top — and it’s way easier than you’d think. These bourbon marshmallows are my favorite.

FAQ
Yes, the S’mores Frappuccino is no longer sold at Starbucks stores. It was first introduced in 2015 and was taken off the menu in 2018, but in 2019 Starbucks reintroduced it. However, the drink was discontinued again in 2021.
Though the S’mores Frappuccino was discontinued for good in 2021 and many of the ingredients are no longer in stock, you can still order a drink similar to the s’mores version. Order a café vanilla frappuccino or a coffee frappuccino with vanilla syrup. Ask for whipped cream and mocha sauce on the bottom, plus more whipped cream on top and a caramel sugar topping.
