Your guide to March drinks
March is one of my favorite months. There’s something about the start of spring that is so invigorating after the winter months. It doesn’t hurt that my birthday is in March too!
Green drinks tend to steal the spotlight, but there’s much more to the month than that! Once we spring forward with Daylight Savings, there’s more light to enjoy in the evenings with a nightcap in hand.
In this guide, I’m sharing what to drink in March, including St. Patrick’s sips, drinks perfect to kick off spring, seasonal favorites and a few food pairings to round out your menus.
March flavors
March has enough of winter left to hold on to your favorite cozy flavors. Hot chocolate, tea drinks and spiced sippers don’t have to leave the rotation just yet, especially since some places remain cold and snowy into March.
If you’re ready to switch things up, herbal or floral flavors are perfect to welcome spring. Simple syrups are a great way to infuse these flavors into both cocktails and mocktails since some of these ingredients err on the lighter side. Thyme and lavender simple syrup are some of my favorites.
Take advantage of citrus while it’s in season. Sure, you can find it year-round but there’s something about a perfectly ripe blood orange that explodes with flavor (and color)! Citrus is a great way to bridge the seasons because they play well with both spice and herbal notes, not to mention how well something like a dehydrated orange slice works as a garnish.

- March Madness: Cheer on your favorite team (or mourn your busted bracket) when with the perfect game day drinks for watching college basketball.
- Lent: Depending on the year, Lent can take up most or all of March. Mocktails are a great option if you’re choosing to avoid alcohol.
- Easter: Since this holiday is a moving target, it sometimes falls in March. Colorful cocktails are the perfect paring to egg hunts for your holiday celebration!
- Mardi Gras: This celebration marking the start of Lent is full of drama and festivities, complete with beads and brass bands, and it typically falls in February though it can slide into March depending on Easter.
