But I love to switch up classics with new flavors, as evident in this strawberry mimosa or this watermelon mimosa.
Growing up, I loved drinking guave juice for breakfast and eating guavas for dessert when I visited my grandparents. I’ve fallen in love with Ceres guava juice. It reminds me of those happy times.

What is guava juice?
Guavas are a sweet, tropical fruit that I enjoy eating when I visit South Africa.
If you’ve never tried one, you absolutely should. Once ripe, the taste is sweet and reminiscent of strawberry, pear, mango and even grapefruit. Unripe guavas can be quite sour.
When juiced, the result is a sweet juice that makes a wonderful cocktail mixer. You can mix it in most drinks where you’d enjoy fruit juices, like this guava cosmopolitan where the guava works in lieu of cranberry juice.
Guavas have a beautiful pinkish-orange color, and the flavor is sweet, tropical and slightly tart, similar to a strawberry, kiwi or passionfruit.
Add some champagne, and you’ve got a perfect twist on this brunch staple to enjoy any time!
Where to buy guava juice
I rarely find fresh guavas in my local supermarket in America, but you might find them at an international grocery store.
You can sometimes find guava juice in the juice aisle or in the international aisle at a regular supermarket. Worth a look, I say!
If not, you can also buy guava juice online. Ceres is my favorite brand.
Best champagne for mimosas
Champagne can be expensive, so any kind of sparkling wine, such as cava or prosecco, will work.
It’s best to use a dry (not sweet) sparkling wine, such as brut champagne or prosecco. Be sure to keep all the ingredients chilled as there’s nothing worse than a warm mimosa.
My guide to sparkling wine can help you pick out a bottle, but if it helps, my go-to bottle is Freixenet which is in the $12-15 range. It’s a good quality yet doesn’t break the bank.
If you want to make non-alcoholic mimosas, you can substitute something clear and bubbly such as:
- ginger ale
- ginger beer
- lemon-lime soda
- sparkling lemonade
- sparkling cider
- club soda
How to make a Guava Mimosa
Let’s get to mixing up these pretty pink mimosas!
To make a mimosa, fill a champagne glass halfway with guava juice (about 3 ounces). If adding triple sec (orange liqueur), use 2 ounces juice and 1 ounce triple sec.
Then top with champagne. Garnish with a mint sprig if you like.
