Celebrate the best season of the year by trying Wine Pairings with Girl Scout Cookies. These special cookies are the perfect reason to throw a party or simply a way to enjoy a simple dessert.
The best time of the year is, in fact, Girl Scout cookie season. Shall we celebrate by enjoying wine pairings with Girl Scout Cookies?
For many troops, proceeds from their cookie sales fund activities and community projects for the scouts. Most troops sell Girl Scout Cookies for a period of six weeks from January to April, though exactly when varies from troop to troop.
Spring 2023 update: I updated this post with wine pairings for four more Girl Scout cookies: Adventurefuls, Raspberry Rallys, Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookies and Toast-Yays.
As a former Girl Scout, I love to support these young, badge-wearing entrepreneurs whenever I have a chance. It teaches young women essential life skills like leadership, sales and accounting.
Many people look forward to this time of year and love trying the new types of cookies every year! (My favorite Girl Scout Cookie will always be a Thin Mint, frozen of course!)
Girl Scout Cookies can also be used as a base for desserts like Thin Mint cupcakes or even served for breakfast like Caramel DeLite oatmeal.
Where to buy Girl Scout Cookies
The Girl Scout Cookie website lets you find troops selling cookies at booths in your location. If you don’t know a Girl Scout or don’t live near a troop, you can even buy cookies online!
There are two bakers for Girl Scout Cookies, Little Brownie Bakers and ABC Bakers, which is why the names of the cookies can vary depending on your location. Each district chooses their own baker.
Some cookies, like the Savannah Smiles, have been discontinued over the years, while others are not available in all areas.
Now, let’s get into those Girl Scout Cookie wine pairings!
Girl Scout Cookie Wine Pairings
There are wine pairings for just about every sweet treat you can imagine, and Girl Scout Cookies are no different. These delectable treats are only available once a year, so it’s important to enjoy them while we can.
Why not invite friends over for a wine tasting party to try your favorite wines with Girl Scout Cookie pairings? Try some new wines, eat some delicious cookies and have a fun happy hour with friends.
Trefoils / Shortbread
Emblazoned with the Girl Scouts logo, the Trefoil shortbread cookies are dense and delicious. Pair them with a dry sparkling wine like prosecco. With bright, fruity flavors and bubbles, prosecco brings out the buttery notes of the Trefoil cookies.
If bubbles aren’t for you, try a crisp Chardonnay wine instead. With a buttery flavor of its own, this popular white wine will work wonders with this buttery cookie.
Lemon-Ups & Lemonades
Lemon desserts — like the inspirational Lemon-Up cookies, sweet Lemonades or homemade lemon tea cakes and lemon drop cookies — are sour and acidic, qualities that pair well with sweet wines. Try pairing this citrusy cookie with a sweet wine like a rosé wine.
If you’re up for making a rosé cocktail, try rosé granita or strawberry rosé sangria, which pairs well with lemon flavors. Either a bright sauvignon blanc or a pinot grigio would be a good choice if you prefer a dry option.
You could also make lemon lime white wine sangria or margarita sangria for a bigger party.
Do-Si-Dos / Peanut Butter Sandwiches
The salted notes of these peanut butter sandwich cookies pair beautifully with sweet Malmsey Madeira. A fortified wine, this dark and rich wine has a musky fragrant nose, plus notes of vanilla, walnuts and caramel.
Merlot wine is another choice for peanut butter cookies, though it’s more of a dry wine.
Toffee-Tastic
Toffee-Tastics are the gluten-free cookies of the Girl Scout Cookie lineup. Their sweet, crunchy toffee bits pair well with a dry, oaky Cabernet Sauvignon.
This red wine pairs well with the caramel notes and toffee flavors, but you could also spring for a red sangria.
Girl Scout S’mores
Try a fruity Viognier wine with these milk chocolate marshmallow sandwich cookies. These slightly sweet, silky, aromatic wines are a perfect complement for the buttery milk chocolate in this newer cookie.
You could also pair your cookies with a glass of Irish Cream on the rocks or make a S’mores White Russian that’s made with homemade marshmallow vodka. Another idea is to pair them with a little Chambord raspberry liqueur.
(If you can’t find these cookies, make a batch of S’mores Rice Krispies Treats or No-Bake S’mores Cookies. Or simply make a campfire and make your own s’mores!)
Tagalongs / Peanut Butter Patties
Sweet, bold chocolate and peanut butter cookies call for Ruby Port or Tawny Port, a sweet red wine often enjoyed after a meal. The fruity notes of the port will give this pairing a semi PB&J feel. (Or try this pomegranate port cocktail.)
A Cabernet Sauvignon is another good choice. Or you could skip the wine and enjoy them with a peanut butter whiskey cocktail or a boozy milkshake.
Samoas / Caramel DeLites
Whether you call them Samoas or Caramel DeLites, these cookies are without a doubt one of the most popular Girl Scout Cookies. The flavors of crunchy coconut, chewy caramel and creamy chocolate work so well together in these cookies and in all kinds of cookie-inspired desserts like Samoa Bundt Cake.
Try them with a dry, full-bodied wine like a Malbec. With dark fruit notes, the rich, jammy fruit flavors of blackberry and red plum are co-star with these indulgent cookies.
For a white wine, try a Sauternes. The butterscotch, caramel and coconut flavor profile of the wine will pair nicely with the flaky coconut in the cookies.
Thin Mints
The most famous Girl Scout Cookie of them all, the Thin Mint, is a dark chocolate-covered mint chocolate biscuit cookie. Mint chocolate pairs well with bold, deep red wines such a Syrah or a Pinot Noir.
The Thin Mint lover will find the spices in this red wine complements the cool, fresh mint flavor of this classic cookie.
A Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon or Zinfandel would also work well here. You could also enjoy them alongside a boozy mint chocolate milkshake.
Peppermint and chocolate is a common combination at the holidays, so keep this pairing in mind when making peppermint joe-joes and other minty holiday desserts.
Adventurefuls
Adventurefuls are chocolate and toffee-flavored cookie with lots of flavors. They have a chalky, crumble texture with a chewy, creamy salted caramel center.
Try these cookies with a tawny port for a berry flavor to complement the saltiness.
A bubbly bottle of Spumante or champagne would also be delicious for highlighting the flavors of the cookies. You could also enjoy a caramel apple mimosa or apple cider sangria.
Raspberry Rallies
The Raspberry Rally are a newer cookie to the Girl Scout menu. In 2023, they were introduced as an online-only cookie.
These crunchy cookies taste like chocolate-covered raspberries. They have a rich chocolate coating and resemble a Thin Mint, but when you bite into them, you’ll find a pinkish-red center.
They have a hint of berry flavor and are slightly dry and crumbly in the center. Pair them with chocolate-covered strawberries and a pinot noir that has red berry, cherry and cinnamon undertones.
Caramel Chocolate Chip
Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookies are another gluten-free option in the Girl Scout cookie lineup, but you’d never know.
Very close in texture to a store-bought chocolate chip cookie, they are crispy and crumbly with very subtle caramel notes and a hint of sea salt.
Try them with a juicy and full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon.
Toast-Yays
The Toast-Yays (perhaps my new favorite cookie) are adorable, bread-shaped cookies that taste like cinnamon bliss. The bottoms are dipped in a sweet, vanilla frosting.
They are meant to taste like French toast but are more like Cinnamon Toast Crunch cookies or iced snickerdoodles.
Pair these with a Beaujolais wine with notes of cherry, pomegranate and blackberry. You could also do a Syrah, which is a bit more savory but still pairs well with cinnamon.
A mulled wine with orange, cinnamon and cloves would be delicious too.

There is a new flavor- adventureful. Caramel and chocolate. Any suggestions for pairing?

Hey Sam! Those weren’t available in my area when I wrote this article. Since they are chocolate caramel cookies, my best guess is to try it with a tawny port, amontillado sherry or madeira. I haven’t had a chance to try them so you’ll have to let me know what you think!
