Sweet and swanky, Strawberry Rosé Sangria brings satisfaction and summertime to the table. Fresh strawberries, rosé wine and a hint of citrus make this pitcher
When I see the first baskets of fresh strawberries lining the grocery store and farmers market shelves, I know spring is here. And I can’t wait to use them.
Whether it’s strawberry basil margaritas or strawberry daiquiris, I’m certain there will be strawberry cocktails.
Strawberry sangria with rosé wine is another
Strawberry Rosé Sangria recipe
Made with fresh berries and rosé wine, Strawberry Rosé Sangria is a succulent, shareable, summer cocktail to enjoy with friends.
It would be perfect for special occasions, like an Easter cocktail or Mother’s Day brunch drink. You can serve up a pitcher for a more casual occasion like taco night or girls’ night. It’s perfect for breezy spring afternoons and hot summer days, but you can enjoy it any time of year.
What is sangria?
Sangria is a fruity, wine-based beverage originating in Spain. Typically classic sangria made with red wine, which is called red sangria. It can also be made with white wine, called white sangria, or rosé wine, called — you guessed it — rosé sangria.
From traditional apples, cranberries and spices to watermelon and citrus, the number of fruits and flavorings you can add is limitless.
Sangria often has another spirit added in addition to wine, such as triple sec (which is orange liqueur) or brandy. My Margarita Sangria brings in tequila along with white wine and citrus flavors. The non-wine addition adds a complexity of flavor and ups the alcohol content.
Ingredients
You only need five ingredients to make this sangria.
Rosé Wine
Light and bright, rosé wine is the star of this show. However you’re welcome to use red or white wine if you like. For help choosing one, check out this guide to rosé wine.
This pink wine can be either sweet or dry. I recommend choosing one on the dry side to pair with the sweet strawberry flavors, but you can use either. (You may wish to omit the sugar if you choose a sweet one.)
Chill your rosé for at least two hours before mixing it into this sangria.
Fresh strawberries
Bright red, juicy, ripe strawberries are beckoning for this sangria. Strawberry season varies depending on where you live, but springtime is sure to be bountiful. Visit the farmers market if you can to support a local farmer.
Make sure you wash and pat dry your berries before you begin. Then, use a strawberry huller to remove the green tops of the berries and use a knife to slice the berries.
Triple Sec
Add Grand Marnier, Cointreau or plain triple sec. for some extra orange flavor. But if you want to keep things simple, feel free to skip the extra booze.
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is a staple for so many cocktails and in sangria, the citrus balances the sweetness of the wine and strawberries. Lime juice will also work if you don’t have lemon.
I always recommend using fresh juice if you can. The bottled stuff tends to be sourer, but it will work fine in a pinch!
Sugar
The sugar is optional, but it does help to add a touch more sweetness. Feel free to add more if it needs it, but you’re also welcome to skip it.
I typically use cane sugar, but granulated sugar will work just as well. You’re also welcome to stir in simple syrup if you have it on hand.
How to make Strawberry Rosé Sangria
Here’s how to make this easy recipe for strawberry sangria:
- In a large pitcher, combine rosé wine (pre-chilled), triple sec, lemon juice and sugar. Stir until the sugar has dissolved.
- Stir in the sliced strawberries and ice.
- Chill in the fridge until ready to serve.
- Pour into glasses with or without ice. Garnish with strawberry slices, lemon slices or fresh mint.
Then, most of all, enjoy this refreshing cocktail!
Variations and substitutions
Add more fruit. Feel free to mix in peaches, blueberries, raspberries or blackberries to liven up this sangria with more summer fruit flavors.
Add slices of lemon. Citrus will add more zesty flavor and give this sangria a strawberry lemonade vibe.
Make it non-alcoholic. Use an alcohol-free rosé wine and non-alcoholic triple sec. You can also use orange juice for the triple sec. It will still be deliciously drinkable!
