Easy Pepperoni Pizza Dip recipe

Sometimes you just need a super simple appetizer, and Pizza Dip is here to answer that call.

This Pepperoni Pizza Dip is based on one my mom used to make. I was a big fan of it in high school so I learned how to make it and it became my go-to appetizer in college that I would bring to parties. You could even say it was one of the first appetizers I learned to make.

I love to make this for game day, especially that Big Game that happens every February. It’s a good chance to hang out with friends over food, drinks and football.

Served warm, it’s sooo cheesy and tastes just like homemade pizza. Serve it with breadsticks, chips, veggies or even pizza rolls, and let your guests go to town. It won’t last long — promise!

It’s also a great dish for movie night, game day, house parties, potlucks and more.

Ingredients for pizza including pepperoni, cream cheese, pizza sauce, italian seasoning, and mozzarella cheese, labeled and arranged on a white surface.

Ingredients

Pizza dip is super easy to make and you can customize it with your favorite pizza toppings. For the dip, here’s what you will need:

  • cream cheese
  • pizza sauce
  • mozzarella cheese
  • pepperoni
  • Italian seasoning

You could also add Italian sausage links, sliced red pepper, mushrooms or whatever your favorites are!

Dipper ideas

Don’t forget to stock up on stuff to serve with this pizza dip! You bake up some small batch pizza dough to use as a dipper. You can also serve it with breadsticks (my favorite) or use one of these ideas:

  • crusty bread (like baguette slices)
  • pita chips
  • crackers
  • scoop-shaped tortilla chips
  • carrot sticks
  • celery sticks

Topping ideas

This appetizer is seriously easy to make, and you can tailor it any way you like with your favorite toppings. We always order pepperoni pizza, so that’s what I went for. But you have plenty of options and you can make it a different way every time!

  • sauces: marinara sauce, pesto, barbecue sauce, alfredo sauce, buffalo sauce, ranch dressing
  • meat options: pepperoni, sausage, bacon, pulled pork, chicken, ground beef, diced meatballs
  • vegetable options: diced roasted red peppers, mushrooms, onions, black olives
  • herbs: fresh oregano, basil, red pepper flakes

Variations

Here are some of my favorite combos you can use with this pizza dip:

  • Hawaiian pizza dip: Add ham and pineapple chunks.
  • Vegetarian pizza dip: Skip the meat and parmesan and top with veggies (ideas above).
  • Vegan pizza dip: Use plant-based cream cheese and plant-based cheese sprinkles. For parmesan, use a sprinkle of nutritional yeast instead.
  • BBQ pizza dip: Use barbecue sauce, onion and either pulled pork or pulled chicken on top.
  • Buffalo chicken pizza dip: Add buffalo sauce instead of pizza sauce and top with chicken.

How to make Pizza Dip

Ready to make your own pizza dip? Here’s what you’ll want to do:

A turquoise spatula resting on a white ceramic dish with a spread of cream or frosting.
A plate with red tomato sauce and a blue spatula.

Get out a pie dish or other shallow, oven-safe dish. Start by spreading on a layer of cream cheese, covering the bottom of the dish. Then top it with pizza sauce and spread it evenly.

Unbaked pizza in a white dish, topped with shredded cheese.
A dish of pizza dip topped with pepperoni slices and sprinkled with grated cheese, served alongside pizza dip in a white bowl on a textured surface.

Then add mozzarella cheese, pepperoni slices and whatever toppings you desire, like Italian seasoning, diced red peppers and more cheese, before popping it in the oven.

Cook it for about 10-15 minutes, until the cheese on top is nice and melty. Sprinkle it with fresh basil, parmesan cheese or some red pepper flakes.

Serve it warm with your favorite dippers, and everyone will scoop it up! I guarantee it will be gone before halftime.
