Your ultimate guide to Mother’s Day cocktails & mocktails

Mother’s Day is the perfect excuse to celebrate the incredible women in our lives. Whether it’s brunch, lunch, dinner or just drinks, taking time to recognize their awesomeness is a must.

The great news is that while these drinks are perfect for celebrating Mother’s Day, they’re so good that you’ll want to keep them around through spring and into summer. With different types of booze, and some with no booze at all, there’s something on the list for every palate!

Quick tips for hosting

You obviously don’t want the guest (or guests) of honor to have to lift a finger, so make sure you’re prepped ahead of time.

  1. Multiply a favorite. If Mom has a go-to cocktail, make enough for everyone to enjoy. Simply multiply the ingredients by whatever amount you need, then convert to cups for easy measuring. When you visit the recipe card on any recipe on this site, use the +/- buttons at the top of any recipe card to scale the recipe as you need to.
  2. Mix a big batch. Batch recipes are an easy way to make sure there’s plenty of drinks to enjoy without having someone stuck playing bartender. Before guests arrive, make any simple syrup your recipe needs, squeeze any fresh juices and mix all ingredients beforehand, then chill until party time. Don’t forget to wait on the bubbles — only add anything like champagne, club soda, ginger beer, etc. right before things kick off to ensure the drinks stay bubbly for a few hours.
  3. Make it special. Small touches like floral ice cubes or a cocktail garnish board make the celebration even more memorable. You can use your mom’s favorites — color, fruit, you name it — as a nod to her.

What to serve with Mother’s Day drinks

You’ll want to let the time of your celebration help craft your menu. Breakfast in bed warrants coffee and pancakes. Brunch celebrations are best with a combination of sweet and savory — think a quiche alongside French toast.

For lunch, try something that goes with anything. A fancy pizza, like prosciutto burrata pizza with arugula & honey impresses without keeping you in the kitchen. If you’re hosting a dinner, grilling is a great way to take advantage of the start of summer.

Anything in between meals still needs snacks! Stick with those that don’t require cutlery so everyone can mingle and enjoy. Spinach artichoke wonton cups are my new favorites for a crowd. And don’t forget desserts! Cookies, cakes, ice cream — I’d pick whatever my guest of honor’s favorite was and serve that. It’s her day, after all!
