Your ultimate guide to June drinks

June is a month that’s filled with fun! It’s the kickoff to summer filled with sunny days spent hanging by the pool or enjoying a cookout with friends and family. Classic recipes with seasonal twists are favorites for the month, especially when made in big batch form to share with a crowd.

Father’s Day is the biggest event of the month, so you’ll want to plan a drink menu that incorporates Dad’s favorites. It’s also a good idea to start planning for your Fourth of July celebrations. There are a few other fun events throughout the month that may let you try something new.

Your June flavor guide

June is all about summer flavors. Take advantage of berries while they’re in season — strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries are all at their tastiest. Tropical fruits like pineapple and mangos bring a twist to favorite drinks. Watermelon and cantaloupe are juicy additions to your drink menu.

Lean into garden goodies for your drinks too. Fresh herbs bring brightness to simple syrup, muddled or as a garnish. Berry ice cubes or herb ice cubes are a simple addition that can add to the wow factor when you’re entertaining.

For Father’s Day, consider what drinks your Dad would enjoy. You can use whiskey, bourbon or even beer as your boozy base for a drink. There are plenty of classic recipes and riffs that will help you celebrate.

What’s happening in June

Outside of Father’s Day, there are plenty of fun dates to observe. Don’t feel the need to try them all — choose your favorites for an excuse to celebrate.

  • 6/3 — World Cider Day
  • 6/4 — National Cognac Day
  • 6/5 — National Moonshine Day
  • First Saturday — National Bubbly Day

  • 6/19 — National Martini Day
  • 6/21 — Father’s Day
  • Fourth Friday — International Rosé Day
  • 6/29 – 7/12 — Wimbledon

It’s also National Iced Tea Month (and Iced Tea Day on 6/10), so you’ll need a batch of cold brew iced tea ready to go. And it’s also Pride Month, so have fun with rainbow drinks, spanning a full spectrum of sips from red to purple.

Manhattan Cocktail
Rich, smooth and spirit-forward, the Manhattan is a classic that never needs an occasion to justify it — though having one certainly helps. Rye or bourbon stirred with sweet vermouth and bitters until perfectly chilled is about as good as it gets. Pour it for the dad who knows what he likes.

Drink holidays

June is packed with drink holidays, which means you have more excuses than usual to try something new. National Rosé Day, National Iced Tea Day, National Bourbon Day, National Martini Day — the calendar basically plans itself. You never really need a reason to make a great drink, but if you want one, June will give you plenty.

A round glass filled with an iced pink drink garnished with a sprig of rosemary and a lemon twist sits on a coaster, with another identical drink and a pink bottle in the background.
Rosé Wine Spritzer
Light, bubbly and perfectly pink, this Rosé Spritzer is the drink that owns summertime, especially with National Rosé Day on the 9th and International Rosé Day the fourth Friday of the month. Spritzers are warm-weather drinking at its most effortless.

a glass of iced tea on a napkin next to a pitcher
Cold Brew Iced Tea
Smooth, mellow and naturally sweet, Cold Brew Iced Tea skips the bitterness that comes from hot steeping and delivers something cleaner and more refreshing. A glass of red iced drink garnished with a basil sprig and plum slice, with strawberries and basil leaves nearby.
Strawberry Bourbon Smash
Fresh strawberries, bourbon, lemon juice and honey get muddled together in the Strawberry Bourbon Smash until the fruit breaks down into something bright, a little rustic and deeply satisfying. A martini glass filled with a clear beverage, garnished with three green olives on a toothpick. A metal jigger and a small bowl of green olives are seen in the background.
Dry Martini
Cold, clean and unapologetically simple, the Dry Martini is the cocktail that has sparked more debates than any other: gin versus vodka, stirred versus shaken, olive versus twist. June 19 is National Martini Day, which gives you the perfect excuse to settle on your preferred ratio and commit to it. Getting it right is half the fun.

20
A lemon cocktail in a glass with a sugared rim and a lemon twist, surrounded by fresh lemons and cocktail tools on a white surface.
Lemon Drop Martini
Made with homemade lemon syrup and finished with a sugared rim, the Lemon Drop Martini is bright, tart and just sweet enough to keep things balanced. It fits right in on National Martini Day alongside the Dry Martini, offering a fruitier, more approachable take for anyone who finds the classic a little too spirit-forward. Both are worth making on June 19.
