Your ultimate guide to engagement party drinks

I’ll let you in on a little secret — engagement parties may be my favorite part of celebrating a couple. It sounds a little crazy, but think about it. They’re not as structured as the wedding itself, and bring together a core crowd of people who love the couple.

It’s also more acceptable to have a fun theme for an engagement party! From the couples’ favorite movie to their favorite team to their go-to vacation spot, the possibilities are endless.

If you’re a little nervous about hosting, keep reading for some of my favorite tips to keep things simple. Cheers to the happy couple!

Quick tips for hosting an engagement party

As with any party, you want to do as much as you can ahead of time to take some of the stress off of you as the host. For an engagement party, you’ll want to keep things simple, yet celebratory. Put things on the menu that serve a crowd without sacrificing the special feeling.

Little touches will go a long way. Edible glitter, floral ice cubes or other fun garnishes can take your cocktails to the next level. And speaking of cocktails, champagne is a staple when it comes to celebrating an upcoming marriage. It’s not very practical to pour a flute for every guests, so instead consider some cocktails that incorporate the bubbly.

Batching drinks is going to be your best friend when hosting. Prep what you can ahead of time — juices, syrups, etc. — and refrigerate, adding any carbonated or bubbly ingredients just before serving.

Food pairings

First and foremost, you’ll want to consider the tastes of the guests of honor. If they have a favorite recipe that will work well for a crowd, definitely make sure to include it on the menu!

You can transform a classic party recipe to make it easier to eat, like spinach artichoke wonton bites or charcuterie cups. They taste elevated, but can be enjoyed as guests mix and mingle — such a win-win!

The desserts should match the celebratory vibe. Champagne cupcakes would be a perfect sweet bite. For something a little more fun, champagne jello shots are bubbly, bouncy and get the party started!

The best engagement party drinks

When you’re ready to celebrate the happy couple, raise a glass with one of these favorite cocktails in hand:

1
A coupe glass filled with a pale yellow cocktail, garnished with a curled lemon peel on the rim. Bar tools, lemon, and ingredients hint at creative French 75 variations in the background.
French 75 Cocktail
The French 75 has earned its place as one of the great celebration cocktails — gin, fresh lemon juice and simple syrup, all topped with bubbly for a drink that's tart, bright and beautifully effervescent. It takes a simple glass of champagne to the next level with a lovely, crisp contrast between the zesty citrus and the lively bubbles. It's a classic for a reason.

Rock candy on a stick sits inside a pink cocktail in a gold star stemless champagne flute. Another flute and a bottle of pink liquor sit behind while a pink and gold plate of rock candy is in the corner of the image.
Pink Champagne Cocktail
Rose-colored and sparkling, this cocktail dresses up pink champagne with a splash of vodka and sweetener for a drink fit for the blushing bride-to-be. Bring this one out for bridal showers, Valentine's Day and anniversary dinners — it fits every romantic occasion without trying too hard. Add a stick of rock candy, or even a ring pop, for a little wedding glitz and glamour.

A lime spiral garnishes the gold rim of a glass containing a Champagne Moscow Mule.
Champagne Moscow Mule
Our elegant take on the classic mule swaps ginger beer for a combination of champagne and ginger liqueur (like Domaine de Canton). Since bubbly has a bite of its own, the liqueur brings a smoother, more refined heat than the original's sharp ginger kick. Fresh lime juice keeps the citrus brightness intact while the bubbles carry everything forward with a clean, sparkling finish.

Peach Bellini
The brunchy Bellini pairs sweet peach purée with sparkling prosecco in one of the simplest and most satisfying brunch cocktails there is. Fresh or frozen peach works beautifully, and the drink comes together in moments with no shaking required. This one's great for daytime parties but it's elegant enough for evenings, too.

Two champagne margaritas sit on a gold tray along with lime wedges and a champagne cork.
Champagne Margarita
If the couple loves margaritas, this is the perfect way to celebrate them. Tequila, orange liqueur and fresh lime juice form the classic margarita backbone here, but a generous pour of bubbly gives the drink a sparkling lift that makes it feel occasion-worthy without losing any of the original's bright citrus punch. Champagne softens the tartness just enough to make this one go down easily.

6
Two glasses of lemonade with a bottle of lemon juice.
Lemon Champagne Punch
Lemon juice and champagne are a natural pairing, and this simple punch with limoncello builds on that bright, citrus-forward combination to create a pitcher drink that's light enough for an afternoon gathering but lively enough to anchor a party table. Fresh lemon slices floated on top make it as pretty as it is easy. Scale it up or down depending on the crowd.

7
A cocktail with orange slices and rosemary sprigs.
Prosecco Punch
Prosecco's gentle sweetness and lower alcohol content make it one of the best base wines for a party punch. It pairs nicely with citrus juices without overpowering them, and a full batch comes together in minutes. Mix one up for the engagement party and it'll be gone before you know it.

A glass of light-colored cocktail garnished with a sprig of rosemary and a pear slice, with a cork and a pitcher of similar drinks in the background.
Sparkling Sangria
Sangria already benefits from some time to rest in the fridge, and the sparkling wine version is no different — the fruit macerates into the juice and liqueur base, and the whole pitcher gets better as it sits. Just add the bubbles right before serving so they don't go flat. Fresh seasonal fruit makes each batch slightly different, which is part of the charm.

9
strawberries garnishing a glass of Strawberry Rosé Sangria
Strawberry Rosé Sangria
Sliced strawberries and crisp rosé make a natural pairing that tastes even better after a few hours together in the pitcher. The berries soften and sweeten the wine while a splash of sparkling water or prosecco at the end keeps everything lively. It's a drink that fits a spring patio as well as it fits an engagement party brunch.

a sliced strawberry on a gold cocktail pick over a pink cocktail.
Strawberry Martini
Fresh strawberry syrup and vodka produce a cocktail that's genuinely fruit-forward rather than artificially sweet — a meaningful distinction worth making. The deep red color is striking in a chilled martini glass, and a single fresh strawberry on the rim makes the garnish feel effortless. That rosy color is true love in a glass.

Champagne Jello Shots
These aren't the fluorescent party shots of your college memory! Champagne jello shots are made from scratch with plain gelatin, so they are lighter, more delicate and surprisingly elegant for what they are. The champagne flavor comes through clearly once they're set, and the presentation in small cups or flutes makes them feel intentional.

A blueberry drink in a glass alongside whole blueberries.
Blueberry Lemonade
Fresh blueberries blended with lemon juice produce a deep violet lemonade that's as vivid in flavor as it is in color. The tartness of the lemon holds up to the berries' sweetness without either one overwhelming the other, and the result is a well-balanced, fruit-forward drink that doesn't need anything added to it. Guests who aren't drinking will be just as happy to reach for this one.
