About this Electric Lemonade recipe

Growing up, I was always a fan of homemade lemonade. On a hot summer day, it was just the thing to cool down and refresh for more pool time. What kid doesn’t like ice cold lemonade?! It’s sugary, sweet, and perfectly tart.

But a close second is every little kid’s favorite drink: blue Kool Aid. This electric lemonade cocktail is essentially an adult version of two childhood favorites, all wrapped up in one tasty drink.

This boozy lemonade gets it’s electric blue color from blue curaçao. It’s seriously so much fun and is honestly a great party drink because it’s so pretty! It reminds me a lot of my blue margarita recipe, which I also love during the summertime.

So if you’re needing the perfect drink to sip while you kickback by the pool, then you’ve got to make this easy cocktail recipe. Pair it with some simple nostalgic snacks like Chex mix, and you just may never leave the pool-side!

Why you’ll love this recipe

What’s not to love about a gorgeous blue cocktail that tastes amazing?

  • It only takes 5 minutes to make this bright blue boozy cocktail! Simple, tasty and really quick to mix up.
  • The best part about this recipe is that you only need four ingredients to make it. If you don’t know what drink to make, this is a perfect last minute cocktail to serve.
  • The beautiful blue color of this cocktail makes it perfect for summer wedding and baby showers, beach and pool parties or the 4th of July! It’s also fun for graduation parties and tailgates — especially when your school/team’s color is blue!

Tools & glassware

To make this simple cocktail, you only need a few basic bar tools. Make sure you’ve got a cocktail shaker and jigger, as well as highball glasses for serving. That’s really all you need to make this electric lemonade!

Ingredients

This super easy cocktail only requires a few basic ingredients. Here is a list of everything you’ll need:

  • lemonade
  • lemon vodka

  • lemon-lime soda
  • lemon slice, for garnish

Leftover blue curaçao? Use it to make frozen blue margaritas or green mimosas!

Garnishes

A simple lemon slice or lemon wedge is a great garnish. But you can also step up the lemon slices by making candied lemon slices or dehydrated lemon slices. A lemon twist would be fun too!

Berry ice cubes with blueberries or blackberries or flower ice cubes with yellow, blue or purple flowers would be a pretty way to step up your garnish game while also keeping it cold.

Margarita sugar and lemon sugar are super tasty on the rim of other drinks, and it’d be great on the rim of the glass of electric lemonade.

Best vodka for Electric Lemonade

“Lemon vodka” can also be called “citron vodka” by some brands. I tend to buy Absolut or Pinnacle for flavored vodkas, but any brand will work! If you need some ideas and guidance on what kind of vodka to buy, then check out my vodka 101 post.

Substitutions & variations

Feel free to use limeade in place of the lemonade! Sour mix would also work in place of the lemonade.

You can also use plain vodka if you don’t have lemon vodka or use limoncello. Other citrus vodka like orange vodka or grapefruit vodka would be fun too.

Flavored sparkling water or club soda would be a great soda free swap for the Sprite. You really just need some kind of carbonation to make the drink bubbly.

If you find that you need something to cut the tanginess of your lemonade in this beverage, add a bit of simple syrup.

Tips & tricks

Check out these quick tips and tricks to ensure your electric lemonade is perfect:

  • Don’t add the lemon-lime soda until just before serving. You’ll want the bubbles to be crisp and delicious!
  • I recommend using a high-quality lemonade for best results. You can make some homemade lemonade for extra tasty flavor, but as long as your lemonade is just pure ingredients then it’s perfect.
  • Before making this drink, chill all of your ingredients to ensure that it stays cold and the flavor is extra yummy.

Food pairings

Pair this yummy lemonade with snack and dishes like popcorn shrimp or bruschetta pinwheels. I also love it with summer time favorites like chips and salsa, air fryer mozzarella sticks, or pepperoni pizza dip.

It would be downright delicious with fish tacos too! And if you’re more of a sweet tooth, serve some chocolate chip cookies with this electric lemonade.

FAQ

Can I make electric lemonade in a pitcher?

Absolutely! Just multiply the ingredients by the amount of servings you plan to make. Mix all but the soda in a large glass pitcher. Then serve over ice and add the chilled soda to each separate glass after you pour the cocktail mixture!

Can I use regular vodka in electric lemonade?

Absolutely! Plain vodka works just as well as lemon vodka. If you still want that extra lemony flavor when using regular vodka, then just add a splash or two of lemon juice.
