Your ultimate guide to bachelor party cocktails

Much like the grooms they celebrate, bachelor parties can vary widely. From bar crawls to axe throwing to a quiet night in at an Airbnb, the one thing these celebrations have in common is a few rounds of fun drinks to mark the occasion!

Sure, it’s easy to grab a six-pack or two and toss them in the cooler, but good drinks don’t have to be difficult. You can celebrate in style by choosing a cocktail that fits both the party and the guest of honor. Start with his favorite spirit and build a drink suitable for the occasion.

Bachelor parties are easy to typecast, but I know that not all dudes like the same things. My own husband is more of a refined whiskey and video games kind of guy, so his bachelor weekend featured laid-back old-fashioneds and Mario Kart (or so I hear!), but he’s been to bachelor parties of all stripes. Every man is different, so tailor the menu to him.

If you don’t have a specific theme, or don’t know what the guests will like, there are plenty of recipes that are sure to be crowd pleasers. You could also use the party theme to help narrow down the drinks. His favorite food is tacos? Margaritas can’t be beat. Have a groom who loves Broadway? Wicked cocktails will change the party for good. Or keep reading, because I’ve rounded up a bunch of great bachelor party cocktails.

Quick tips for batch cocktails

Since bachelor parties usually involve a crew, batch cocktails are an easy way to make sure there’s plenty of drinks to enjoy without having someone stuck playing bartender all night long. Here’s how to make the best batch cocktails for your stag night:

  1. Work ahead. Before the party starts, make any simple syrup your recipe needs, squeeze any fresh juices and mix all ingredients beforehand, then chill until party time.
  2. Wait on the bubbles. Anything carbonated like champagne, beer, club soda, ginger beer, etc. should be added right before things kick off to ensure the drinks stay bubbly for a few hours.
  3. Serve a mocktail. Have a non-alcoholic option for anyone who prefers not to indulge or needs a break from the booze. Non-alcoholic beer is also nice to have on hand for those still drinking but looking to lighten it up.
  4. Multiply a favorite. If you have a recipe that’s not made for a crowd, you can multiply the ingredients by whatever amount you need, then convert to cups for easy measuring. When you visit the recipe card on any recipe on this site, use the +/- buttons at the top of any recipe card to scale the recipe as you need to.

It never hurts to have a few things on hand before hosting. I’d recommend a pitcher of bloody mary mix and one of margarita mix — these are easy to make yourself and ensure drinks can be ready to go in a snap. Old-fashioned simple syrup is a little-known secret that gets you from pouring to sipping in just a minute or two and would be perfect for a refined bachelor party.

What to serve with bachelor party cocktails

For any party, I prefer snacks that are easy to eat without utensils or a place to sit. Baked jalapeño poppers are simple, spicy and perfect for snacking. And bachelor parties are the perfect occasion for pizza and wings.

Pinwheels, either pizza pinwheels or puff pastry pinwheels with tomato, basil and parmesan, are always a hit. Or you could opt for one of my new favorite hacks to a party staple, spinach artichoke wonton cups. They take the classic dip and transform it into bite-sized cups that are so tasty!

While you’re prepping in the kitchen, add large ice cubes to your to-make list. These are key for whiskey lovers, and you won’t want those drinks to become watered down too quickly. You can make them in advance so they’re just chilling until party time (sorry, I couldn’t resist). The key to getting clear ice like you’d find at your favorite bar is the directional freezing method — it’s easier than it sounds but makes a great impression!
