About this Mini Beer Shot recipe
You know what they say — good things come in small packages, and that’s definitely true when it comes to these Mini Beer Shots!
Although they look like the real thing, they don’t taste like their larger counterpart. They’re made with Licor 43, a Spanish herbal liquor with notes of vanilla and citrus. Add in the thick, creamy topper and you’re left with a creamy, dessert-worthy sipper.
Not that you need an occasion for these delightful sips, but they’d be perfect at an Oktoberfest celebration. Heading to cheer on your favorite team? Make a batch to share with other tailgaters! With their smooth, sweet taste they’d even be great at a dinner party.

I used 1.5 oz shot glasses * for my Mini Beer Shots, but if you have a different size on-hand, that will work! Just fill the glass about ⅔-full with your liqueur. You’ll also want a bar spoon to achieve the foam-like float on top.

Substitutions & variations
Heavy cream floats on top because Licor 43 has a high sugar content and higher density that makes it sink. Half and half might work, but won’t work as well as whipping cream. You could use whipped cream in a pinch, but be aware that it won’t be smooth.
This is one recipe where regular milk and non-dairy milks aren’t an option. They are just going to mix right in and won’t float on top, so if you’re serving these at an occasion where guests have any dietary restrictions, you may want to skip the cream.
For another beer-themed libation, the Baby Guinness shot looks like a little stout beer. I wish I’d known about the Mini Beer Shot to to serve with Baby Guinness at my husband’s “Beer Thirty”-themed 30th birthday party.
Instructions
You’ll want to plan ahead when making these shots so that you can chill your shot glasses * before serving. Place them in the freezer for about half an hour before you want to make your shots.

Pour the vanilla-flavored liqueur into your glasses, about 2/3 of the way full. Then, grab your bar spoon * and a hold it upside down just over the surface of the liqueur. Slowly pour the heavy cream over the back of the spoon so it drifts onto the Licor 43 and forms a distinct layer of heavy cream on top.
Once you have created a drink with golden liqueur beneath and a creamy “foam” floating above, you’re ready to enjoy!

Tips & tricks
- When you’re floating with a spoon, angle down so the heavy cream eases onto the liqueur and doesn’t mix with it.
- Chill your shot glasses & liqueur for a cool, satisfying drink.
- You can pre-batch by pouring the Licor 43 into shot glasses and refrigerating them, then add the cream just before serving.

Food pairings
Since these shots are right at home on game day, serve them alongside casual fare. Air fryer chicken wings are always a hit and you can’t go wrong with baked jalapeño poppers.
Compliment the notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and orange in the liqueur with something sweet like chai snickerdoodles or milk tart.
FAQ
To craft these craft beer lookalikes, you’ll actually use Licor 43, a Spanish liqueur with notes of spice, orange and vanilla.
These drinks are made for a crowd! Pour your liqueur into shot glasses ahead of time and chill until you’re ready to serve. Add the float and you’re ready to go!
