A while back, I tried a mangonada at a local restaurant, where I fell in love with this delicious

But it’s so much more than that: It also includes a layer of Chamoy, which is a condiment of fermented fruit, salt, sugar and chiles and a rim of chili-lime seasoning. And it’s best enjoyed with an edible tamarind straw with a tart, chewy coating.
They look complicated, but mangonadas are pretty simple to make at home — if you have the right ingredients. Luckily, they are easy to find at Latin American supermarkets.

Here is what you will need to make your own mangonada drinks at home:
- mango: Frozen mango works best, but you can use fresh, juicy mangoes if needed since we are also adding ice.
- mango nectar: This is slightly thicker than mango juice.

drink . - Chamoy sauce: Chamoy is a saucy condiment made from chiles, lime juice and fruit like mangos, plums or apricots. You can use store-bought or make homemade Chamoy.
- granulated sugar: Using white or cane sugar is best because it doesn’t alter the
drink ‘s color like brown sugar will. - chili-lime seasoning: Tajín is the most popular brand of this sweet and slightly spicy seasoning. It’s made with chili powder and dried lime zest.
- tamarind candy sticks: Also called tamarind straws.
- ice: Ice helps make the
drink even colder, and it’s important if you are using fresh mango chunks. If you plan to make a lot of mangonadas, you might want to pick up a bag of ice cubes.
You can buy frozen mango and mango nectar at most grocery stores or freeze mangos yourself.

How to make a Mangonada
Here’s how to make a delicious mangonada at home:
Get out your blender and combine frozen mango chunks, mango nectar, lime juice, sugar and ice until totally smooth.
Pour some spicy Chamoy sauce on a small plate and some Tajín on another plate. Then dip the rims of your glasses in the Chamoy first, and then roll the edges in chili-lime seasoning.
Drizzle a little more Chamoy sauce on the inside wall of the glass. Pour the frozen mango mixture into the glass.
Garnish with a tamarind candy straw, slices of mango or lime wedges.
Tips & tricks
When blending up frozen fruit, it helps to let it thaw for a couple of minutes before blending.
Like you’re making a mango smoothie, pour the liquids in the blender first, then add the fruit on top. This helps the blender work seamlessly without the fruit getting stuck in the blades.
