Best champagne for cocktails

When it comes to champagne cocktails, you’ll want to pick a bottle that works best for your budget and your recipe. Champagne can be expensive, so any kind of sparkling wine, such as cava or prosecco, will work.

For most cocktails, which are usually a little sweet, a drier sparkling wine usually pairs best. Look for “brut” or “extra brut” on the label. My guide to sparkling wine can help you pick out a bottle and tell you more about the different types.

Quick tips for serving champagne cocktails

One 750mL bottle of champagne will make approximately 6-8 cocktails, depending on the recipe you use and how much your friends drink. You know your guests and how much they drink, but keep in mind most guests will enjoy 1 or 2 drinks every hour.

Having a non-alcoholic option like ginger ale, ginger beer or sparkling cider is a good idea so you can make virgin mimosas or other mocktails for guests that prefer to skip the booze.

If you’re making drinks ahead of the party, wait to add the bubbly until you’re ready to serve. Adding it too early can cause your drink to go flat before guests have a chance to enjoy them. You can also keep things simple by setting up a station for guests to fix their own holiday drinks. A mimosa bar (or better yet, a mimosa bar on a Christmas tree) can work for brunches or evening parties. Set up fresh fruit garnishes and different mixers. A champagne cocktail bar with a sugar cube selection and cocktail bitters allows guests to prepare some elegant cocktails.

What to serve with champagne cocktails

Sparkling cocktails pair perfectly with a Christmas charcuterie board. Add puff pastry cheese twists for an easy addition everyone will love!

If you’re serving mimosas over brunch, try a blueberry coffee cake that’s perfect for a crowd!

A treat like champagne jello shots or champagne truffles are great for dessert.
