With the holiday season in full swing, it’s time to plan those drink menus. What drinks are on the menu for your ThanksgivingChristmas and New Year’s Eve?

There’s one thing all these holidays have in common: bubbly champagne!

Sparkling wine is an old standby to turn to when you are celebrating anything, and it’s perfect for the holidays, which are all about celebrating friends and family.

Whether you’re making classic mimosas for Christmas morning or looking for a sparkling cocktail for NYE, there’s something here for all your special occasions.

Best champagne for cocktails

Champagne can be expensive, so any kind of sparkling wine, such as cava or prosecco, will work.

For most cocktails, which are usually a little sweet, a drier sparkling wine usually pairs best. Look for “brut” or “extra brut” on the label.

My guide to sparkling wine can help you pick out a bottle and tell you more about the different types.

A great budget buy is Freixenet or La Marca, which are both in the $12-15 range. They are good quality yet they don’t break the bank.

How much champagne to buy

One 750mL bottle of champagne will make approximately 6-8 cocktails, depending on the recipe you use and how much your friends drink.

You know your guests and how much they drink, but keep in mind most guests will enjoy 1 or 2 drinks every hour.

For example, for 10 guests at a 2-hour party, you’d need enough champagne for about 18 drinks, which would be 3 bottles. I usually buy 1 or 2 extra, just in case, but I’ll enjoy it another time if there are any leftover.

Having a non-alcoholic option like ginger ale, ginger beer or sparkling cider is a good idea so you can make virgin mimosas.

Champagne cocktails for a crowd

If you’re throwing a big bash, set up a station for guests to fix their own holiday drinks.

mimosa bar (or better yet, a mimosa bar on a Christmas tree) can work for brunches or evening parties. Set up fresh fruit garnishes and different mixers.

Or you could set up a champagne cocktail bar with a sugar cube selection and cocktail bitters for guests to prepare some elegant cocktails.

A treat like champagne jello shots or champagne truffles can provide boozy fun, too.

Now, let’s get into the list of the best champagne cocktail recipes!
