About this Halloween Mocktail recipe

Every Halloween, we love whipping up little “potions” and “elixirs” in the kitchen — something fun, fizzy and a little spooky. But with them, sometimes come food coloring, sugar overload and alcohol, which aren’t always on the menu.

This green mocktail has become our new favorite way to celebrate without the scary ingredients. It blends kiwi, cucumber, mint and lime into a fresh, naturally green juice that’s topped with lemon-lime soda for a fizzy finish. Light, bright and easy to sip, it’s a great choice for any Halloween gathering.

Why you’ll love this recipe

  1. Naturally green. No need to make Halloween mocktails that feature dyes or food coloring. This drink is made with real fruit and fresh herbs.
  2. So simple to make. Just blend the ingredients, strain and top with soda.
  3. Party-friendly. This recipe not only scales nicely for a crowd, but it’s a great fit for kids and adults alike.

Tools & glassware

You’ll need a blender or food processor to make the kiwi-cucumber base, along with a fine-mesh strainer * to remove the pulp. A jigger or measuring cup helps you portion out the juice and soda, and a bar spoon * or straw is perfect for stirring. Optionally a citrus juicer * is helpful for juicing the limes.

Serve this drink in a tall highball glass or a stemless wine glass filled with ice. I used skeleton wine glasses for these!

And for the garnish, use a paring knife and a straw or small round cutter to create the skull shapes in your cucumber slices.

A glass bowl filled with sliced cucumbers, with some slices showing seed patterns resembling a skull face.

Ingredients

Ripe kiwi brings natural sweetness and vivid color, while cucumber and mint keep this drink cool and refreshing. Lime juice adds tartness, and agave nectar * balances the flavors without being too sugary or heavy. Lemon-lime soda or club soda provide the ideal bubbly finish for this non-alcoholic treat.

For the garnish, fresh mint leaves and cucumber slices make this drink look as good as it tastes. For a Halloween twist, try cutting the cucumbers into spooky shapes — like skulls or ghosts — using a small knife or a straw to create eyes and teeth. (This cucumber skull salad was my inspiration! Place the diced kiwi, cucumber pieces, mint, lime juice, agave and water in a food processor or blender. Blend until smooth.

A glass Pyrex measuring cup containing about 12 ounces of light green liquid, placed on a white surface.

Strain through a fine-mesh strainer * and discard the pulp.

A hand pours a light green drink over ice into a glass held by a silver skeletal hand holder.
A clear glass with a silver skeleton hand design holds ice and a yellowish drink while a green can pours liquid into it.

To make a mocktail, add 2 ounces of the kiwi-cucumber-lime mixture to a glass filled with ice. Top with 4 to 6 ounces of lemon-lime soda or club soda. (I don’t recommend ginger ale, because it changes the color of the drink into a yellowish hue.)

A hand stirs a pale yellow iced drink in a glass with a silver skeleton hand holder; another similar glass is in the background.
A hand places mint sprigs into a glass of yellow-green cocktail with cucumber slices and ice, served in a skeleton hand glass.

Stir gently. Garnish with cucumber slices and a mint sprig.

    Tips & tricks

    • Make the base ahead. Blend the juice base ahead of time and chill it for faster serving.
    • Stick with clear soda. Ginger ale can make the color a bit murky and unnatural.
    • Adjust the sweetness to taste. Taste the puree before straining and adjust the agave to your liking.

    Food pairings

This fun Halloween drink recipe pairs well with an array of party snacks. Try it with:

    • Appetizers: Cheese boards, veggie trays or charcuterie cups are all excellent for grazing.
    • Desserts: Cupcakes, cookies or chocolate bark with spooky designs are great additions to your Halloween party. We also love these spiderweb tarts!
    • Snacks: Popcorn, pretzels or caramel apples offer a mix of sweet and salty options.
