Berry Spa Water recipe

When planning a summer gathering, I’m usually all about the cocktails.

But it’s SUMMER. And every party needs to have something refreshing without alcohol.

Lemonade and iced tea are great, but let’s not forget good ol’ H20.

When I throw parties, I love to put out a pitcher of infused water filled with seasonal fruits. In the summer, why not fresh berries from the farmers market?

This gorgeous fruit water will be a hit at any summer shindig, but you can also just keep a pitcher in the fridge to enjoy all by yourself.

Why you’ll love this recipe

Berry infused water is a refreshing drink to enjoy throughout the summer.

  • You can make it with just about any type of fruit. Use your favorite combinations.
  • Since it’s made of water and fruit, you can be sure it’s a healthy drink with no added sugar and all the health benefits of fruit.
  • It’s a great way to make the taste of plain water more exciting for anyone who wants to hydrate.
  • This spa water is the perfect way to cool down on a hot summer day.

With colors of red, white and blue, this recipe works well for the American summer holidays like Memorial Day and July 4th. It would also work for patriotic holidays in other countries with the same colors, like France’s Bastille Day, or to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee this year. But it doesn’t have to be a holiday to enjoy the sweet taste of berries.

What is infused water?

Infused water is plain water that’s been infused with fresh fruit, herbs and/or spices. The longer the fruit steeps in water, the more fragrant essential oils and juices from the fruit seep into the water. Whatever fruits you add will bring subtle flavors to every glass of water.

Also called Detox Water, Spa Water or Flavored Water, a pitcher of this fresh-tasting water is a great way to use seasonal flavors as well as add a festive look to any drinks table.

Infused water is a great alternative to sugary drinks, but it’s a little more exciting (and flavorful) than regular water. With this perfect drink by your side, you’ll be on your way to upping your daily water intake in no time.

Ingredients

Water

Filtered water is best for this recipe, but use the best water you have. You can buy distilled water from the store or you can use tap water. At my house, we use a Soma water filter that we refill with tap water.

Keep in mind that you’ll need to keep topping it up, so choose something that makes sense for a party!

You can also use sparkling water in this recipe, or you can simply add a few bubbles to each glass.

Make sure that whatever you use is COLD water so that it doesn’t melt the ice too much as you pour it in.

Fresh fruit

I used a combination of blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries in this infused water. I also added slices of apple that I cut with star-shaped cookie cutters, but that’s totally optional.

You may use frozen fruit if you like. It will thaw out in time in the water, but if it’s still pretty frozen, make sure to warn your guests lest they bite into a piece!

Ice

Use the best ice you have available. For a party, I typically grab a bag or two at the store for the cooler and drinks table, but you can also use what’s in your freezer.

You could also dress it up with some Berry Ice Cubes for some extra fun.

How to make Berry Infused Water

Here’s how to make this easy recipe for summer spa water:

  1. Wash and dry all your fresh fruit that you plan to use.
  2. If adding apples, slice them thinly horizontally then use a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes.
  3. Add fruit and ice to a pitcher. You may wish to arrange the berries on the outside of the pitcher with ice in the middle.
  4. Cover contents with enough water.
  5. Refrigerate until ready to serve. A couple of hours is ideal, but you can serve it right away.
  6. Top up with more ice and water as needed.

If you have any leftover, you can enjoy it after your event has ended. Simply add extra water and store it in the fridge. The fruits will continue to infuse with their natural flavor.

However, if you have included citrus, make sure to remove them after a few hours because their rinds will begin to give off bitter flavors. It’s still drinkable, but it won’t taste as good.

Fruit for Berry Spa Water

You can use all kinds of fresh produce in this recipe. Here are a few ideas to help you dream up infused water combinations of your favorite fruits.

  • cherries (pitted)
  • strawberries
  • raspberries
  • blueberries
  • blackberries
  • red apples (diced or cut into shapes)
  • lemon slices
  • lime slices
  • orange slices
  • watermelon (diced)
  • dragon fruit
  • star fruit
  • kiwi
  • tomato

You can also add herbs such as fresh mint, rosemary or basil leaves to infuse some extra flavor.

Another idea is to add a squeeze of lemon juice to the water to give it some more flavor right off the bat — do this if you don’t plan to infuse it very long before serving it. This will also help keep any fruit, like apples, from browning.
