Tools & equipment

To make this easy creamer, you only need a few simple tools. Make sure you’ve got a saucepan and whisk on hand. You will also need measuring cups and spoons to measure out each ingredient.

I also recommend having an airtight bottle or mason jar to store the creamer in the fridge.

Ingredients for a recipe: a bowl of half and half, a small bowl of pumpkin puree, a small bowl of vanilla extract, a small bowl of pumpkin pie spice, and a bowl of maple syrup.

Ingredients

These five simple ingredients are all that you need to make the most delicious pumpkin spice coffee creamer:

  • half and half
  • maple syrup, or brown sugar
  • pumpkin purée
  • vanilla extract
  • pumpkin pie spice

about pumpkin purée

Pumpkin pie filling is not a good substitute for pumpkin purée. It’s usually already sweetened and has added spices and flavorings. Make sure you grab 100% pure pumpkin purée.

A glass mug filled with a creamy beverage sits on a white plate, accompanied by a cinnamon stick and a spoon. A checkered cloth, a bottle, and a decorative item are in the background.

Substitutions & variations

Dairy-free creamer: To make this dairy free, you can use a dairy free milk alternative. Coconut milk, almond milk, oat milk and other dairy free options will all work.

Substitute for half-and-half: Whole milk is a good sub for half and half if you don’t have it on hand. You can also use heavy cream, your creamer will just be a bit heavier and thicker.

Pumpkin spice substitute: Don’t have pumpkin spice on hand? You can make your own with ground cinnamon, ground cloves, ground nutmeg, allspice and ground ginger.

Sweeteners: Both maple syrup and brown sugar are perfect for pumpkin spice creamer. They add a rich flavor! However, you can make this with agave nectar, simple syrup or honey if you prefer.

Instructions

Ready to ditch the store-bought creamer? Then follow these instructions on how to make pumpkin spice creamer:

Ingredients for a recipe displayed: a saucepan with milk, small bowls containing pumpkin puree, syrup, vanilla extract, spices, and a checkered cloth on a white surface.

In a small saucepan, combine all of the ingredients and whisk to incorporate them together.

Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, whisking constantly.

A saucepan contains milk, a brown powder (likely cinnamon or similar spice), and a dollop of a reddish-brown paste. A red and orange checkered cloth is placed beside the pan.

When all ingredients are incorporated, remove from heat.

A clear glass carafe filled with a brown liquid, likely a beverage, placed on a counter. A towel, decorative gourds, and cinnamon sticks are nearby.

Use the creamer immediately or let cool before storing. Store creamer in the fridge for up to a week. Shake before using because the spices will settle to the bottom.

Tips and Tricks

With these basic tips, you can make sure this creamer is a five star success:

  • Don’t use too high of heat to combine these ingredients on the stove top or you could scald the half and half. A medium low heat will work just fine!
  • Give this creamer a taste before storing! You may prefer more pumpkin spice, or even more purée. Feel free to adjust it to your personal flavor preferences.
  • Let the creamer completely cool before storing. And you may want to use a funnel to easily transfer the liquid from the saucepan to the storage container.

How to use Pumpkin Spice Creamer

This creamer can be used for more than just coffee, though I love to add a tablespoon or two of it to fresh French press coffee. It’s essentially a make-shift way to throw together a pumpkin spice latte! You can also use it to make an iced PSL too.

It would be super tasty in any fall latte — this one doesn’t use pumpkin, so it’d be a yummy swap for the autumn spice syrup.

This creamer is also so yummy in cold brew coffee and hot coffee. You can even add it to a pumpkin cream cold brew for extra flavor. You could actually even use this in some boozy beverages like a white Russian too!
