It’s not Christmas without cookies — just ask the big man in red. From traditional sugar cookies to those filled with spice, these sweet treats are a must for any holiday gathering.

Much like big batch drinks, cookies are the perfect dessert to serve a crowd. They’re easy to make ahead of time and are simple to serve with no fuss. Using them as the star of the dessert table is a hosting hack that keeps you mingling rather than mixing.

Put your oven to work and double the recipe so there are enough for both gifting and enjoying. Cookie boxes are hard to beat — fill them with your favorite holiday cookies and share them all season long.

ABOUT THE SWEETEST SEASON

This recipe is part of The Sweetest Season, an annual virtual cookie swap co-hosted by Erin of The Speckled Palate and myself. Every year, we get a sizeable group of food bloggers together to share new holiday cookie recipes.

This year we are raising money for Cookies 4 Kids’ Cancer, a recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to funding research for new, innovative and less-toxic treatments for childhood cancer. This season, OXO will be matching every dollar raised through Dec. 31, 2025 up to $100,000. Any money raised will automatically double on our fundraising page!

Quick tips for hosting

I love to offer options to guests, so when I host I bake a few different types of cookies. Making a batch of more traditional treats and pairing it with a recipe that’s more adventurous ensures everyone has something they’ll enjoy!

Don’t be afraid to get creative with the presentation of your cookies. Use stacked cake plates to create a display reminiscent of a Christmas tree, decorate a charcuterie tray with ornaments amongst your cookies or opt for a Christmas plate for a simple solution.

Would you like to save this?

We'll email a link to you, so you can come back to it later! Plus you'll get great new recipes each week!

What to serve with Christmas cookies

If you need a little sustenance with your sweets, add charcuterie cups to the menu. You can customize them to your crowd and easy to eat on the go. Sausage balls are a good shareable appetizer that helps to balance out the sweetness of the desserts.

When it comes to drinks, create a classic cookies and milk combo with milk punch or homemade eggnog that will make Santa jealous! Or try one of these cocktail and cookie pairings.
