Cat Lady Gift Guide + Pixel’s Birthday

Memorial Day might be this weekend, but I’m celebrating something else this weekend — my sweet baby Pixel’s third birthday. She was 3 weeks old when I adopted her, and I figured out her birthday would be around now, though I’m not sure exactly when.

I came to adopt Pixel when a friend asked me to accompany her to pick out a kitten. She and her boyfriend had picked out one kitten already, and had decided to adopt a second one from the same litter. We drove out to the country to meet a woman fostering a litter of 3-week old kittens with the help of her mama cat. The kittens were living in a small fenced-in area outside, and they were all filthy and crying. Their birth mother had abandoned them, and animal control found them and planned to put the kittens to sleep unless they were adopted soon. So sad, right?

I really hadn’t been planning on bringing a kitten home with me, but how could I say no? Pixel squeaked out tiny meows all the way home, and for several days after. Because she was the runt of the litter, everything about her was tiny so I named her after the most minute measurement in graphic design. (My friends named her sisters Piglet and Wiggles, in case you were wondering.) My Pixie has been my best friend ever since and she brings me such joy. I’m glad I can give her a better life than the one she had when we met.

I’m obviously not afraid to admit that I’m a bit of a cat lady, but I try not overwhelm people with my cat love too often. It can hard to not buy all the cute things for this little fluff, but I do think she deserves a little birthday present. Here are a few things on my wish list for Pixel!
