Line several baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
In a small bowl, combine sugar, water, corn syrup and vanilla. Stir together until the mixture thickens, like the consistency of craft glue. Add more water a 1/4 teaspoon at a time if necessary.
Divide the mixture into 4 small bowls and tint with food coloring as desired.
Transfer one of the colors to a pastry bag fitted with a small pastry tip (I recommend #2 size). Pipe thin, long lines onto the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the other colors.
Let stand uncovered for several hours or overnight. The stripes should be very firm and easily breakable. Once dry, break into small pieces. Store them in an airtight container.
