Strawberry Agua Fresca is a refreshing Mexican drink made with fresh strawberries, water, lime juice and a bit of sugar or honey. Let me tell you, it tastes like summertime in a glass!
In a blender, combine the strawberries, water, honey and lime juice. Blend until very smooth.
Strain the fruit mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a pitcher or bowl. This will remove any solids or sediments from the fruit.
Chill for 1-2 hours in a pitcher or food-safe, airtight container, or serve immediately over ice.
Notes
If you're short on time, purchase pre-cut strawberries from the produce department at your local grocery store.
If your berries are perfectly ripe and in season, you might not need to add any sweetener at all.
The amount of lime juice you get from your lime may vary depending on the size and juiciness of your limes. If you have smaller or less juicy limes, you may need to use the whole thing to get the right amount of tangy flavor.
The key to a delicious Strawberry Agua Fresca is to use fresh, ripe, and sweet strawberries. The riper the fruit, the sweeter the drink will be. If possible, try to buy locally grown strawberries when they are in season for the best taste.
To get a smooth and consistent texture, blend the strawberries with the water and sweetener until completely smooth. Strawberry seeds may get through your fine mesh strainer, if this bothers you, then line the strainer with cheesecloth first, that will catch the seeds.
Add some fresh mint leaves, basil or sliced lime to your Strawberry Agua Fresca for an extra burst of flavor and aroma. You can also experiment with different variations by adding other fruits, such as pineapple or mango, or add a splash of coconut milk or rum for a tropical twist.
