Fresh, fruity, and just the right amount of fancy this Blackberry Basil Mocktail is the perfect sip for warm days or any time you want something refreshing without the alcohol.
In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine blackberries, basil and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 20 minutes.
Strain out the blackberries, basil and any pulp, then return the hot liquid to the pan. Add the sugar and stir until dissolved. Remove from heat. Let cool completely.
Transfer to a glass jar and seal tightly with a lid. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
Blackberry Basil Mocktail
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add zero-proof spirit, blackberry basil syrup and lemon juice. Shake well.
Strain into a rocks glass with ice. Garnish with a blackberry and a fresh basil leaf.
Notes
Make sugar-free simple syrup by substituting your favorite sugar substitute such as Stevia or coconut sugar.Give the syrup enough time in the pan (by following the recommended cook time), otherwise the berries can overpower the basil.
