July was a blur. A total and complete blur.
I feel like I say that every month, but time sure is flying.
July was busy. There was a lot going on at work, plus we took a working vacation to the Outer Banks (and managed to check off a number of Chrissie’s OBX Hidden Gems) and a weekend trip to Raleigh to see a concert.
I began the Travelogue series last year as a way to tell you a little more about what’s going on in my life, beyond the usual recipe and travel inspiration I usually write about here.
Plus it’s a nice way for me to look back at the passing time. So here’s a quick recap of last month!
GORGEOUS PLACE I WENT:
The Outer Banks! Last year, I spent half a week at the beach with my brother, his girlfriend and some friends. This year, I spent a week at the beach with my brother, his (now) fiancée, Chris and some friends. It was just what I needed. I hope this is an annual thing!
THING I ATE:
We started the Whole30 last week, and I have been obsessed with making my own mayonnaise. It makes the absolute best chicken salad! I learned the hard way that you need light olive oil, though!
MUSIC I’M ADORING:
Over the weekend, Chris and I trekked to Raleigh for a whirlwind trip. For my birthday, he gave me tickets to see my all-time favorite band Belle & Sebastian — and it was so spectacular. If you ever have a chance to see your favorite band in person, do it.
DRINK I IMBIBED:
Perhaps it’s the Rosé Wine Granita video we made, but I’ve been loving rosé lately. I had a really amazing dry rosé at Trio in the Outer Banks. It’s a great spot for wine, cheese, beer and sandwiches.
PLACE I’D LIKE TO GO:
I’m dreaming of a trip to San Francisco. It’s been 10 years since I visited the Golden City and all that fog is calling my name.
DRINK I WANT TO MAKE:
I have a long list of cocktails to try after Whole30, but Erin’s Honeysuckle Cherry Smash is at the top. I need honeysuckle vodka in my life!
RECOMMENDED SPOT IN CHARLOTTE:
My friend Kimi opened a brick and mortar store of her shop Covet Atelier in Plaza Midwood that you absolutely must see if you’re in town! I interviewed her for my Dream Jobs series last year and it’s so amazing to see her making her dreams come true!
THING ON MY WISHLIST:
I’m totally jonesing for a fancy Le Creuset Dutch Oven. These have been on my wishlist forever and I really want one so I can make Meghan’s Jalapeño Avocado Cream Cheese Wontons.
WHAT I’LL MISS ABOUT JULY:
The beach, for sure. I love, love, love the slow pace at the Outer Banks. It doesn’t feel like any other beach town to me.
Slow down, time — please! // susannah
