It’s November already? Here’s a look back at October 2016. In this October Travelogue, get a peek at the things I did, ate, drank and saw.
I know I said this last month, but where did the month go?! I spent most of October buried under a huge, complicated project that left me with little time for anything and anyone, including blogging. Sorry, friends. Believe me, I’ve missed you.
One of the highlights of my month was getting to meet the Wolfgang Puck! He was in Charlotte to show off his newly revamped restaurant, WP Kitchen + Bar. I joined a group of food writers/bloggers and we enjoyed cocktails and wine and got to cook pizza with Wolfgang himself. My favorite was his smoked salmon pizza — unexpectedly good. He’s a seriously nice, funny guy and it was such an honor to be in his presence for one day.
In November, I’ll be doing a lot of traveling. I’m super excited to tell you about it all soon, but also nervous about getting everything done before I leave! The holidays are almost here, too, and every year it seems like they’re busier and busier. All I want this year is time off from work to enjoy time with my friends and family. If that’s not what making your own job and career is about, I don’t know what it is.

Gorgeous place I went: Home! I didn’t need to go anywhere to enjoy the gorgeous fall leaves of North Carolina. I always appreciate our colorful season.
Song I put on repeat: Not a song, but I have been playing this Deep Focus playlist on Spotify pretty much non-stop. Big, complex projects mean lots of concentration and this playlist really delivers.
Show I’m obsessed with: Timeless on ABC. I might be a little late to the game on this, but I am weirdly in love with this show. It’s all about time travel, and in each episode the main characters head back to different eras and countries to solve mysteries. I’m obsessed with the costumes!
Drink I imbibed: Hurricane cocktails! My friend Chrissie had to move her wedding from The Outer Banks to Charlotte last-minute due to Hurricane Matthew. It was cool to see her friends and family pitch in to keep her day special. My contribution was batch cocktails for 100 people. I’ve never made that many cocktails before, and I had to invest in a special 22-quart bucket for the occasion! I feel like it’ll come in handy again at some point…
Delicious thing I ate: Definitely biscuits! The Charlotte Food Bloggers group had a biscuit-making class at our local fast food chain, Bojangles’, and it was amazing. We got to make the biscuits, then dress them up with anything and everything in the test kitchen. So fun!
Place I’d like to go: Asheville, N.C. Remember how earlier I said I wanted to stay home? Well, home is all fine and good, but a trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway right now would be far superior. All the colors! My favorite.
Dish I want to make: This Geode Cake is amazing. Then again, anything with rock candy immediately brings out my inner kid.
Thing on my wishlist: Any one of my mom’s new pieces in her new Etsy shop, O&Y Studio. I spent a few weekends in October helping her put her shop together, and I am so excited that she finally launched it this week. So in love with these hoops, you guys. More here.
Thing I will miss about October: Still, the warm-ish weather. It’s been unseasonably warm, and I didn’t hate it. Winter will be here soon enough, anyway. But if I say this next month, I’m moving somewhere cold. // susannah

I feel like we can come up with a reason to put that huge bucket to use again!
