Beer Babe Essentials

I’ve heard people say that women don’t — or worse, shouldn’t — drink beer, and I’d like to stick up for us all right now and say that’s 100% not true. More often than not, I order a beer when I go out, not a cocktail. Most of my gal pals are into craft beer, and will happily visit breweries, bottle shops and brew fests with me. Whoever says women and beer don’t go together is wrong, and you can happily refer them to me.

Since I’m celebrating American Craft Beer Week this week, I thought I’d take a minute to point out a few awesome things for the beer loving ladies I know. Whether she’s a beginner beer drinker or a seasoned cicerone, every beer babe needs something from this list for her next birthday party, her bachelorette weekend or a backyard barbecue.

Opening

First, every beer-slinging lady needs a bottle opener — or five. I keep one on my keychain, several in my kitchen and one on my pocket knife. (Rule No. 9: Always carry a knife.) I am majorly in love with the stunning Crest 2 (2) or and the oak leaf (13).

Storing

Next, she needs vessels for carrying and storing. I love the idea of a monogrammed growler (8) for keeping craft brews at home. A bottle-opening bucket (6) filled with ice would be handy at a party, or you could opt for a sturdy six-pack holder (5) for picnics and tailgates.

Drinking

Of course, every beer babe needs vessels for drinking. The Libbey Craft Brew Sampler (1) includes every size and shape of beer glass you could ever need. I have never used a beer foamer (7) or a beer chiller (11), but I have to admit that both sound like intriguing additions. I’m a huge fan of Freakers (10), which are knitted beer cozies that fit all sizes of bottles and glasses. They come in a spectrum of colors and patterns, and I love that they are made right here in North Carolina.

Looking

Lastly, every beer babe needs beer in her life even when she’s not drinking. A beautiful coffee table book about beer can design and packaging does the trick, and so would any of the beer cards or prints from Red Cruiser. Cheers, beer babes! // susannah
