Cinco de Mayo is on Monday, which means this weekend is (or should be) all about celebrating. Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May, celebrates the Mexican army’s victory over the French at the 1862 Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. Although it’s not a widely-celebrated holiday in Mexico, the United States has adopted it as a way to honor our southern neighbor’s history and culture.
My favorite restaurants always seem to trend toward Mexican and Latin venues, and I find that those flavors often influence my cooking as well. In fact, here are six Feast + West recipes for drinks and party snacks that are worthy of a Cinco de Mayo get-together. From guacamole to mojitos, there’s something for everyone on this list. Happy Cinco de Mayo! // susannah

Classic Margaritas // Drink them on the rocks or throw all the ingredients in a blender with some ice for a frozen treat. Add some extra fresh fruit like strawberries or blackberries for an extra twist.
Perfect Guacamole // Whipping up a bowl of guac is one of my favorite things to do, and this is how I always make it. It’s easy, though I tend to make it up as I go based on what I have on hand. Go ahead and buy your avocados so they’re ripe enough by party time.
Michelada // Spice up a Mexican beer with some tomato juice, hot sauce, salt and lime for a twist on a Bloody Mary. This is a great alternative to a margarita on Cinco de Mayo.
Roasted Chickpeas // Though chickpeas aren’t necessarily a Mexican snack, use a savory and spicy mixture before baking to pack more heat. Any combination of paprika, cayenne pepper, chili powder and cumin would all go well with a little lime, sea salt and olive oil.
Tequila Breeze // For a lighter cocktail, add grapefruit juice, lime juice and a dash of club soda to a glass filled with ice. Make them in a pitcher or punch bowl for a larger party.
Lemon-Lime Mojitos // I saved the best for last — my favorite mojito recipe. Use fresh ingredients and make a pitcher (or two!) for a crowd. Enjoy!
